Show TOURISTS TOURIST CAMP GROUND LOCATED brigham city has been tendered the use ot of the old tithing office grounds for or a tourists camping grounds by the stohl stahl furniture company owners of the property according to city manager ruel SI if eskelsen the property la is located in the center of 0 the block between forest and first south streets and fronts on first and second west streets two comfort stations have been erected on the grounds and the tables and stoves are being moved to the new quarters the camp grounds are now ready for occupation by the automobile traveling having been thoroughly cleaned oft off and put in first class condition this Is not the fit time those these grounds have been used tor for camping purposes in the early days ot of brigham city the tithing office and yards were located there and emigrants coming to brigham city were accustomed to driving into the grounds to camp until suitable homes could be found or until they decided to move to other places at this early date these newcomers were cordially greeted by the late bishop alvin nichols Nl chols who was in charge of the tithing office their teams were fed and these people were for until they were able to find homes ot of their own in those days they did not travel in comfortable speedy automobiles but with able ox teams mainly at first and later with teams ot of horses it required several days to make the journey from salt lake city to brigham while the same distance can easily be covered now by automobile la in about two hours times have changed considerably since the early tittles fifties but human nature has remained about the same the traveling public has always appreciated precia ted a good camping ground no matter by what hat means they are traveling except by rail these grounds should be made as convenient and comfortable as possible and the citizens and businessmen 0 of o this city will be remunerated by the money circulated here by the tourists in their purchases ot at needed articles food gas and oil all etc the camping grounds at the old tithing office and yards are not permanent however lio wever as the property has only been turned over to the city for or a season city must eventually establish a permanent camping place for auto tourists it would probably be a good thing tor for tile the citizens to purchase this property provided it is for sale and make this permanent camping ground another proposition has been suggested by postmaster roland A madsen his plan la Is to purchase the property in the center of 0 the block north of 0 forest street and west ol of main near where the camp grounds were located last tall fall there Is property for sale in this block fronting on first west and first north streets which could be converted into a permanent camping place tor for the sits the location of 0 either place la Is ideal being in a quiet neighborhood yet close enough to the business section to be practicable tourists to be profitable to a community must bo be located in camping close to the business section where they can procure needed supplies attend the picture shows and other amusements yet in a place where it Is quiet enough for or them to find rest |
