Show Leases Of Minerals Underway i The lease sale of oil, gas, and I carbon dioxide on federal lands , adjacent to the Phipps Box-Death ! Hollow Wilderness Area in Garfield 1 County proceeded Feb. 28 in spite i of a request for suspension of the ! sale by the Southern Utah Wilder- ; ness Alliance, The Wilderness Society, So-ciety, and the Sierra Club. Michael A. Poling, acting for k the Assistant Secretary for Land and Minerals Management for the Department De-partment of the Interior, reviewed the justification supporting the re-j re-j quest for a suspension of the sale. i "I have found that there is nothing noth-ing in your statement of reasons to indicate that imminent harm will occur if the sale is held and the D parcels processed accordingly," stated Poling. "Therefore, I concur with the decision by Utah BLM State Director James Parker to offer I all twenty parcels identified and hereby deny the request for suspen- sion of the lease sale," he added. I An appeal protesting the sale has also been filed by these groups with A the Interior Board of Land Appeals. According to Poling, an announcement announce-ment will be made at the sale that an appeal has been filed and is pending review by the Board. If the V Board makes a decision adversely affecting the leases, BLM will refund re-fund all monies. ' The lands, managed primarily by t the Forest Service, will be offered at a competitive sale to be held on Feb. 28 at 10 a.m. at the Bureau of Land Management, Utah State Of- fice, 324 South State Street, Fourth Floor Conference Room, Salt Lake City, Utah. |
