Show Travel Council Outlines Plans For Region Thirteen members and guests of the Garfield Travel Council met at Foy's Country Corner Cafe Thursday, Thurs-day, Jan. 28 to discuss subjects from pins and travel shows to bill boards and the Presidents Day Cross-Country Ski Tour-Race set for Ruby's Inn at Bryce. "Greater participation in the fourth race to be held is expected and the outlook for a great snow pack is excellent," said council chairman Bob Benfield. The tour is unlimited. All ages may register and there are overall prizes for both men and women as well as prizes for different age groups. Ten kilometers (6.2 miles) is the distance, and nine a.m. is the kick-off time for the Feb. 15 event. Ruby's Inn will be the starting and stopping place and is located just north of the entrance to Bryce Canyon National Park. A $10 fee will be charged each entrant and registrants will receive a skier's fanny pack. With special awards going to both men and women overall winners, 14 class winners in each of the male female division will also receive awards. The council also discussed recent re-cent and future travel shows and their effect on tourism in the area. Because more than one million people visited Bryce Canyon National Na-tional Park in 1987, Benfield said the outlook for 1988 is for a banner year for the county. Replacements for several outgoing members was discussed as well as buying 1,000 Garfield County Pins to pass out. |
