PANGUITCH Again the resounding "highlight" of the Garfield County Fair was this year's 2nd Annual Demolition Derby which filled the grandstands and delighted the audiences. Attendance may have been slightly down due to the 30 minutes of rain preceding the event, but no amount of rain could dampen the spirits of the expectant car bashers and crowd. Each heat was exciting and rewarding for drivers from car entries received from Panguitch, Delta, Mt. Pleasant and Fairview. Crowd Pleaser Demolition Derby Fills Fair Stadium To Capacity Panguitch native and organizer Dan Frandscn of Smithficld was able to garner car entries from Panguitch, Delta, Fairview and Mt. Pleasant but organizers and fans still hope for the involvement of the rest of the county next year with entries from Bryce Valley, Boulder and Escalante. The first heat of the evening was the biggest with eight separate cntics. Rusty Bench in 15, from Fairview captured the win, taking home S100; with Brandon Smith 111, Delta, taking home 2nd place and S50 and Sid Marshall 64, Panguitch taking home 3rd place and S25. All three received nice trophies as well for their efforts. Racing against the winners were Jimmy Johnson 401 sponsored by the Panguitch Fire Department; (Sec Demolition Derby On Page 4A) -i Demo Derby From Page 1 Terry G leave 8 sponsored by Panguitch City; Donny Leach 69; Brian Boshcll 77 and Colby Davis 169. Taking 1st place in the second heat was Kip Davis 96 winning SI 00; in 2nd place David Brcaux 34 from Mt. Pleasant winning $50 and in 3rd place was Gary Brcinholt 88, sponsored by the Emergency Medical Technicians. Also in this heat were Tim Hudson 6S sponsored by Scvy Hcrefords; J.D. Crofts 1 sponsored by Leland's Chevron and Kevin Moore 10-57 (the Pink Pig) sponsored by the Panguitch City Police. David Breaux 34 also took 1st place in the third heat winning $100; Kip Davis 96 took 2nd winning $50 and Gary Breinholt 88 took 3rd taking home $25. Also in this heat were Rusty Bench 15, Brandon Smith 111 and Sid Marshall 64. The final event or "Bash To The Last" was won by Jimmy Johnson 401 Panguitch taking home $100 and a trophy. Also competing in that event were Tim Hudson, J.D. Crofts, Colby Davis, Rusty Bench, Donny Leach and Kevin Moore. Receiving a trophy for the all-around all-around "Crowd Plcascr" in the derby was driver Kip Davis. |
