Show Escalante Events Marilyn Jackson The female population increased this week bringing "sugar and spice and all things nice." A new baby girl was born to Mr. and Mrs. Jay Brooks August 25. She is the first girl in three generations of the Brooks family spanning 58 years. Little Whitney Ann Brooks was welcomed by grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Brooks and Mr. and Mrs. Theron Mitchell, great-grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Arlis Brooks, Veda Mitchell and Marjorie Costanzo and an excited brother, Russell. A baby girl to be named Crystal Dawn Mitchell was born Friday, August 28, to Mr. and Mrs. Rob Mitchell. The 9-lb. baby girl has two brothers, Shawn and Terrance, at home. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Barney, Mr. and Mrs. Bob McMurtrey and Mr. and Mrs. Skip Mitchell. Great-grandparents Great-grandparents include Mr. and Mrs. Thell Barney, Mr. and Mrs. Chester Lay, Mrs. Fern McMurtrey and Mr. and Mrs. Art Barrett Mr. and Mrs. Kent Osborn are also parents of a new baby girl, bom Tuesday, August 25. Infant Megan Cherish Osbom joins two brothers and three sisters at home: Darcy Jo, Nathan, Christa, Heather, and Caleb. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Orland Chidester of Redmond, Red-mond, and Berlin Osborn. The family is residing in the home beside be-side the Dixie State Bank as father, Kent, is teaching special education in the schools here. Deon Alvey traveled to Las Vegas Ve-gas to see her new granddaughter born to daughter, Raylene, and husband, Dave Whitefield, there. The baby born August 25, will be named Jessica Rae Whitefield. With the babies of Mr. and Mrs. Brent Cottam and Mr. and Mrs. Larry Poteet the total of new additions in 1987 numbers 15. A new mobile unit has been placed beside the elementary school for additional space. Thelma Marsh accompanied the Sharon Dale Marsh family to Cedar City where she met sister, Virginia Bauer, for the mission farewells of their two grandsons. Darren Woolsey, son of Dr. and Mrs. Warren Woolsey, will be serving an LDS mission in San Jose, Calif., and Steve Jolley, son of Mr. and Mrs. Evan Jolley, will be going go-ing to Paris, France. Schow relatives here learned of the death of Francis Marion Jemi-son, Jemi-son, husband of the former Ora Schow, who passed away August 22, in Salt Lake City of cancer. Mr. and Mrs. C.R. Griffin recently re-cently returned from a trip through the Northwest where they toured Canada, Glacier National Park and and Yellowstone National Park, and sights there. They returned to Salt Lake City for the funeral services of Leone Bailey. Hilda Roundy accompanied ac-companied the Griffins. Also there were Mr. and Mrs. Smith Alvey, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Griffin, Mr. and Mrs. Hal Shurtz and children, Kerry Dean Shurtz and Stephanie Shurtz. Pauline Lott has completed additional schooling this summer and will be teaching in St. George. Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Banks have had numerous people at their home. Grandson Jeff Banks of Washington, D.C., and his sister Maria Banks, who will be attending school at Brigham Young University, came to spend several days sightseeing with the Banks. Son, Robert, and his wife, Cheryl Banks, of Hawaii brought their nine children for three weeks before moving to Key West, Fla. While in this area, they toured Hole-in-the-Rock and Canyon Country. Cheryl Banks and some of the children then took a side trip to New Mexico to visit a sister there. They will return this weekend to join Doug Bank's oldest daughter, Pam, and her new husband who are coming for a few days. Barbara Pollock and new husband, hus-band, Harry Collard, brought their motorhome and stopped to see Ethel Pollock before spending a few days in the Boulder Mountains. Kym Reid and children went to Kingston for the wedding reception of her cousin Suzanne Coates. Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Haycock met their family at Posey Lake last week for a reunion. Nearly 25 members attended, including all of the family but two. The Haycocks then joined Woodrow Haycock and .family at Taylorsville for the mission mis-sion farewell of his son, Shawn Haycock, who has been called to serve an LDS mission in Texas. Nine members of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers traveled to Or-derville Or-derville for the county meeting where they met with members from camps throughout the area. Barbara Munson returned from Idaho Falls where she met former college roommates to do temple work and reminisce. She returned home to learn that another friend in Las Vegas had undergone surgery, so Michelle Simons accompanied her to Las Vegas for the weekend. The 70-plus visitors at church last Sunday were noticed by the congregation. With an average attendance at-tendance of 230, the additional number was evident. Patriarch Jim Clark of Can-nonville Can-nonville presented the lesson on abortion to a combined priesthood and Relief Society Sunday morning. morn-ing. Ross Shelley and his wife, Na-dine, Na-dine, were introduced to the group. Mr. Shelley is an electrician at the new high school. They will be living liv-ing in the Kitchen rental home, formerly known as the Morris Shirts residence. Their two teenagers, son Allen and daughter Holley, are among the new students at the high school. The opening enrollment at the high school was 111. Included were new students, Nathan Osborn, Darcy Jo Osborn, Angelika Crigler and Douglas Bo-den. Bo-den.
