Show VA Department Could Get $561 Million More in '85 D.C.; Seattle DENVER Funding of the Veterans Administration's Department of Medicine and Surgery (DM&S) would be increased by $561 million in President Reagan's Fiscal Year 1985 budget request. DM&S operates a nationwide system of 172 hospitals, 227 outpatient clinics, 103 nursing homes and 16 domiciliaries to provide medical care for the nation's 27.9 million veterans. VA projects more than 1.4 million inpatients will be treated during FY 1985, a slight Increase in the number of patients for the current fiscal year. Outpatient medical and dental care is estimated to increase to approximately 18.9 million outpatient visits during 1985, about 78,000 more than the current fiscal year. The FY 1985 proposal for DM&S $9.1 billion Is 33.5 percent of the entire VA budget proposal of $27.2 billion. Included in the DM&S request is $192.7 million for medical and prosthetic research. Ten new nursing home care units will be opened: Bronx, N.Y; Dallas, Tex.; Denver, Colo. Fresno, Calif.; D.C.; Seattle Washington, and Spokane, Wash.; Wichita, Kan.; West Los Angeles, Calif, and Salt Lake City. |
