Show Escalante Band Wins Top Honors ESCALANTE - The Escalante student band returned from Saturday's first annual marching festival in St. George with three trophies. Escalante's marching band was the only band among the 13 participating Southern Utah high school bands to leave the competition with three trophies. Escalante students traveled to St. George on Friday, staying overnight to make ready for early morning competition. Accompanying the 35-member group were chaperones Sandra Cooper, Michelle Alvey and Thais Griffin. Driving the bus was Mary Carr. The group captured a first place trophy for direction and auxiliary teams (flag and banner carriers). They also took a third place trophy for marching and a trophy for participation. Madlyn Haws serves as band director for Escalante. The festival, the first of its kind in southern Utah, was hosted by Pineview High School |
