Show Antimoney Ranchers Win at Fair ANTIMONY - Owners of the Black Canyon Ranch in Antimony returned victorious from the Utah State Fair where three of their animals took prizes in the Polled Hereford division. Their bull calf, BC 107H Victor 2N, was named champion and their heifer, Canyon Centerfold 8N, was named Reserve Grand Champion Heifer. Another heifer was named reserve heifer calf during the Judging where some of the finest animals in Utah competed with animals from as far away as California and Idaho. Their 300 acre spread lies just south of Antimony where they breed registered livestock, specialized in Polled Herefords. The brothers began showing their animals last year in San Francisco and Denver. Ray and Landon run the ranch where they now have some 90 head of registered cattle. Black Canyon Ranch began participating at the Cow Palace last October in a standard perfection show where their February heifer, BCC MS Advance 624 21M, won the Reserve Calf Champion award. In January of this year the same heifer stood fourth in her class at the 58th National Polled Hereford show in Denver. Owners Anderson parted with their prize in March of this year in Reno where she was sold to a California-Nevada firm for $8,700. Following the progress of their prize heifer, after selling her, the Anderson's learned that she had ben named Grand Champion ' Heifer of the whole show at the California State Fair in early September. Not resting on their laurels, Black Canyon Ranch expects to continue showing their fine livestock with the three Utah State Fair winners expected to take more prizes in the months ahead. |
