Show OGDEN WOMAN WOMA STRUCK BY AUTO AUT mrs cornelia butterfield dies at local hospital sunday from injuries A juries S sustained mrs airs cornelia butterfield age 61 of ogden died sunday night at 0 clock at the pearse hospital in this city from injuries received at about when she was struck by an automobile owned and driven by leroy C horsley ot of salt lake city the accident occurred at the alt alf N olsen fruit stand on the highway about tour four miles south of 0 this city as mrs airs butterfield was crossing the street to purchase some fruit according to deputy charles cheat cheal who investigated the case mrs airs butterfield ter field and her daughter mrs J J rowse her 13 year old son chad a daughter and a niece were out riding in a ford car driven by the son coining norh from ogden they stopped at the olsen fruit stand to purchase fruit the boy parking the car to the right ot of the road well off the hilgh highway ay mrs airs butterfield crossed over to inspect the fruit returning to the ar car to ask her daughter which variety she should buy she turned suddenly it is said and began running back towards the fruit stand mr air horsley accompanied by his wife returning to salt lake from this city came along in their essex coach and as soon as he saw mrs airs butterfield he honked the horn born and began to slow down he was driving at less than 20 miles an hour in an attempt to miss her he swerved the car to the right driving off the cement road she pursued her course towards the stand where they met the car striking mrs airs butte butterfield knocking her down and passing over her body mr air horsley brought the injured woman to the hospital here and then reported the accident to sheriff J H zundel 1 an examination at the hospital by dr R A pearse showed that she had received blow in abe the back by the car which caused internal injuries and was possibly the direct cause of mrs airs Butter fields death As the car passed over her body her clothes were torn off and she was almost skinned alive she suffered fractures of oe both collar bones the left in two places two left and one right ribs were broken and mashed and her left ankle was fractured and torn an inquest was held over the body of ilas mrs cornelia butterfield in the city court at 11 yesterday morning with judge holton presiding and S norman lee john W peters anan and N C hoist as an acting coroners s jury examination of the witness was conducted by bk county attorney At Lorney J wesley horsley after hearing the testimony of eight witnesses the jury retired tor for da liberation and returned the following verdict that the sali said cornelia butterfield came to her death through being accidentally struck by an automobile driven by leroy C horsley in our judgment the tha accident was unavoidable surviving sirs airs butterfield are her mother mrs john gray and the following sons and daughters wm E butterfield mrs airs ida mckins mckinstray tray air mrs J J rowse mrs airs frank lons chai F butterfield and raymond 0 but bertield all ot of ogden also 30 grand children and the following brothers and sisters mrs airs J al wagner nori norman i drabble stanley E edgley mrs airs bert vance all ot of ogden and mrs airs wm morgan ot of roseville calif r fenton en butterfield husband of the deceased died at ogden about 7 years yeara ago the body was removed to ogden yesterday afternoon |
