Show Plateau Under Study The Richfield Ranger District, of the Fishlake National Forest, is preparing an environmental assessment (EA) to consider administration of the Old Woman Plateau area under a fire management prescription for the purpose of fuel reduction and rejuvenating the existing ponderosa pine ecosystem. The district is requesting public input in order that the alternatives to be considered are responsive to the greatest public need. Two interests currently identified are: (1) the use of fire should be in a professional manner, and (2) if some areas include timber, that it be provided as fuelwood prior to burning. To address these interests the Forest Service is preparing an EA in order to determine the best management techniques to apply to the ponderosa pine; asking fot further public input, preparing a map for distribution which will show the locations of fuelwood concentrations. This mapping will help provide for a better utilization of the existing resource. Persons with comments concerning this proposed EA, may send them to District Ranger, Richfield Ranger District, 55 South 100 East, Richfield, Utah 84701. In order for these comments to be incorporated into the EA planning process, they need to be received at the District. Office no later than May 2, 1931. |
