In his search for prospective members, Niebel found that there are collectors of arrowheads and spear heads, and rock collectors, some with equipment to cut and polish stones. Surprisingly, there is also one prospective member, skilled as a factor, who has won many ribbons and has been widely recognized for his art. Niebel noted that rock collectors come to Garfield County from all over the world to collect the great variety of specimens available locally. Prior to the actual formation of the society, Niebel is circulating a newsletter to generate additional Interest. He stated that Mary Anderson, an officer in the Rocky Mountain Federation will be assisting the group in establishing their organization. Niebel pointed out that someone had placed an ad in the Lapidary Journal about two years ago in which they described the mineral attractions of Garfield County, generating a great deal of interest that year and bringing in many people to appreciate the wealth of minerals that Garfield has to offer. First meeting for Interested potential members is set for January 11, at 8 p.m. in the Panguitch City Room at which time officers will be elected for 1980. |
