Show Tropic Topics ' 1 Ella Adair l Rondda Brinkerhoff recently returned from a trip to Clifton, Virginia where she and her aunt, Karen Dutton, stayed for two weeks with Dwayne and Jo-Ann Harkleroad. Ronald's trip was highlighted by visits to Mr. Vernon and Richmond, Virginia, various strategic points of Interest of the War Between the States, and to Washington, D.C. which Included a ride down Pennsylvania Avenue, a stroll through the Botanical Gardens, a visit to Washington Square, and a "by invitation only" luncheon .dinner at the Smithsonian Institute. Ronelda took the trip especially to gather information and to do research for a novel she is currently working on about the civil war. A luncheon was given in her honor at the Harkleroad home where she was pleased at long last to meet the "writer's workshop" group who have been critiquing her work for the past year via correspondence. On her return trip, Ronelda traveled crosscountry with JoAnn Harkleroad who spends her summers in Tropic. Mrs. Harkleroad is a soon-to-be published author of a Western novel Fteezeout, the setting of which is the Kaibab area of the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, Keela, Paul and Luella Mangum were in Salt Lake City over the weekend. They attended the missionary testimonial for the son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Hobson, who will leave In the near future for Ciclly, to serve on an LDS mission. Blake recently worked In the-Bryce-Valley area and stayed with relatives here. Mr. and Mrs. Dean wmtcn were recently in Salt Lake City to attend a dinner held for Jake Garn. Mr, and Mrs. Arnold Adair spent the weekend in Salt Lake City. Ella attended her 50th an-nlversary with graduation classmates at . the West High School. Dr. Simms Duggin was also present, as he had also been a member of the class. Many acquaintances were renewed with friends of many years. The former studentbody president was in charge of the program. A delicious dinner was. served. Four of the teachers who taught the group were present. The oldest one, Mr. Astler, is 1 91 years old and g remembered many of his former students and g enjoyed meeting them g again. I Margaret and Margie I Mecham and Florence I Svrett were in Richfield I on business. a , Sara and Malen Lit-tlefield are visiting with their son Steve and family in Mayfield. The Owen Shakes pears have a new great granddaughter born to Mr, and Mrs. Steve Mitchell in Texas. The Lions and Lady Lions will hold their installation dinner at Kodachrome State Park at 7:30 p.m. All Bryce Lions and partners are invited to attend. Mr. and Mrs. Mateland Baugh and Mr. and Mrs. Larvin Pollock attended the graduation exercises for Girl Staters in Cedar City. . Ella Adair attended a -.five .county . meeting for "IKecommiltees on Golden Agers in Cedar City. The Clem Johnsons have some of their children visiting with them from Colorado. LaVel Baugh and Keven Shakespear were in Tropic. Ora Brinkerhoff, Darrell and Melinda Shakespear went to Salt Lake City to see LaMar-Shakespear; Nellie Rae Mecham enjoyed a visit from her parents. They attended sacrament meeting to hear Stan talk and were called on to be some of the speakers. High Council members did not appear for their assignment. Sharron and Chris White and daughters visited with the Give Bybee family. Linda Mecham has spent the past week in Arizona visiting her parents. Miss Heaton, the new home economics teacher was a visitor in town. Bill Pollock is the new president of the Bryce Canyon Branch with Kelly Shakespear as one of his counselors. Shirley Hannah and Alice Hobbs have gone back east to visit their parents. Shirley to Indiana and Alice to West Virginia. The George Wilsons have two of their grandchildren visiting with them this week. Viva Mecham enjoyed a visit from an old friend, Mabel Peterson, during the week. They formerly worked together at Bryce Canyon. Steve Mechams missionary testimonial will be held Sunday at li:30 a.m. He will leave shortly for the South African mission. |
