Show Garfield Participates In Region Disabled Programs CEDAR CITY - "Super week" began Friday for 25 developmental disabled children and adults from Iron, Beaver and Garfield counties. A highlight of the activity-filled week was a guided tour through the Donny and Marie studio in Orem and an opportunity to watch a taping of one of their weekly TV shows. All "super week" participants have been involved in a Title XX recreation and learning program this summer in their respective counties. "During the summer, they have taken classes in marketing and cooking, community awareness and social survival. They will now have a chance to put into practice the skills they have learned," Virginia Higbee, Volunteer Support Coordinator, Southern Utah State College School of Continuing Education, said. Friday the group left Cedar City for Provo They spent Saturday morning a' the Brigham Young Unive- ' recreational center, then boarder Heber Creeper for a meandering ride to Heber City to after 1 Wasatch County Fair. Sunday the group attended S. School at the Utah State Tra School in American Fork, then return to Cedar City. "Super week" continued Monday with a visit to Cedar Breaks National Monument, and Tuesday with a trip to Kanab to see this season's melodramas at the Old Bam Playhouse. Accompanying the group were chaperones and summer program assistants Carol Walker, Agenes Hansen, Debbie Cordbridge, Kathy Judd and Mrs. Higbee. The trip is being funded through Title XX and the Five County Association of Governments, Manpower Planning program. Mrs. Higbee said that the regularly scheduled classes for the Iron County participants will continue through next week. Swimming lessons, sponsored by the Cedar City Recreation Program, will continue each Tuesday and Thursday until school begins. Swimming sessions will be held from 5-6 p.m. in the new Cedar City pool. |
