Show Bryce Valley Clubs Become Hub of Community Activity A community is built by the combination of a large number of citizens working together with the resources and talents available. Troic was no different, the combined efforts of the citizens in the LDS church and civic groups helped to make it what it is today and plans have been formulated by the same type of group to make the town become even greater. The clubs involved have been: BRYCE LIONS CLUB The Bryce Lions Club holds its meetings the second and fourth Thru Sclavs each month in the Tropic Scout House at 8 p.m. During the time the club has been organized it has become well known for its annual Little Britches Rodeo and Barbeque that is held on the Fourth of July and the Sheepherders Mutton Dinner held the weekend of Labor Day. They have their own lighted rodeo grounds in the community. Members of the club were the instigators of the Koda chrome State Park for they began by putting in a temporary picnic area and barbeque pit then went to the State Parks Department and sought their help in making it as it is now. a very picturesque state park with camp sites, rest rooms and water. They have also worked very hard fixing up the town park and scout house for community use BBVCE VALLEY BUSINESS MEN'S ASSOCIATION The Bryce Valley Business Men's Association consists of the business men in Tropic and was organized primarily to help convert Tropic into an authentic Old Utah Town complete with western hospitality and businesses Under the direction of Jim Thomas plans have been made to include a Buffalo Steak Rest; home made candy shop, bakery and ice cream; blacksmith shop; cheese shop; farm museum; historical and Mormon museum; visitors center; a park to include besides 'awn, trees and fountain also a kosk or band stand and an archery range, cap and ball range, old music store, sasparilla saloon ana various shops Activities win include rodeos, barbeques; sheep shearing contests, trail rides, hiking, overnight and extended camping, rough and mild, trout fishing and just wandering around BRYCE LADY LIONS The Bryce Valley Lady Lions Club holds its meetings the first Thursday of each month, except July and August in the Tropic scout house at 8 p.m. The group's membership comes from Tropic, Can-nonville, Henrieville and Bryce Canyon wives of Bryce Lions Club members. They have many projects planned to help build the community. SQUARE DANCING The Ponderosa Promenaders of Bryce VAlley is a square dancing gropu that meets every Wednesday evening at 8 p.m. at Ruby's Inn. bert Leach, a professional caller, calls for the group twice a month and records are used the other nights. Anyone interested in square dancing may call 834-5254 or 834-5267 at Bryce Canyon. ART An art guild has been formed in the community. Anyone interested in art of any form is welcome to become a member Oils, pastels, sketching, water colors, ceramics, ano learner craft are all part of this program LADIES CHORUS Members of the Tropic LDS Ward Relief Society have a 30 voice chorus that performs for special occasions throughout the county and also entertains various civic activities. They also present some programs at Bryce Canyon during the summer for special occasions ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) held weekly at 7:30 p.m on Wednesdays in the Scout House COMMUNITY SCHOOLS There is an opportunity offered for any interested person to attend the community school in Tropic During the winter classes were taught in Art. Homemaking skills, fly tieing. mathematics, type, English and gardening certified teachers teach the courses. During the summer months activitis are still carried on in various subjects Anyone desiring to take advantage of the schools should contact Ella Adair. Tropic. CHURCH Tropic has one I J)S church in i the community Meetings are held as follows: Sunday Priesthood meeting 8:45 a m., Sunday School 10 a m , sacrament meeting 11:30 a m Tuesday Releif Society 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. MIA 8 p.m. |
