Show Fishing 'Excellent' In Region, Report Indicates The 1977 Utah General fishing season is now in full swing and reports across the state indicate this has developed into one of the best fishing seasons in recent years. Most streams are flowing low and clear and were heavily stocked for the opener. Lakes and reservoirs were generally lower and fish are concentrated in a decreased volume of water. ' In the southern region the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources reports the following conditions on the major and most popular waters. Panguitch Lake has. been good for fish V, to lb. A few larger fish have been reported up to 4 lbs. The lake has now been stocked with 200,000 finglering rainbow. This planting, coupled with a large insect hatch, has slowed fishing the past week. Fishing is expected to pick up by the middle of June. Panguitch Creek, Mammoth Creek, asay Creek, Pine Creek and the Sevier River have all been stocked with catchable rainbows. All these streams also have reproducing populations of brown trout. Fishing success depends mostly on the skill of the angler. Pine Lake, Posey Lake, Lowe Bowns Res., Navajo Lake, and Wide Hollow Res. also have all been stocked with catchable rainbows. Posey, Pine and Navajo Lakes also have populations of brook trout. Anglers find success varies depending on the time of day, weather conditions, and the skill of the fisherman. The Boulder Mountain lakes are now accessible. Some of the best fly fishing and Jigging In the region occurs on these small lakes and reservoirs for cutthroat and brook trout. Guide booklets of the Boulder Mtn. lakes are now in the process of being updated by the division. The treatment of Tropic Reservoir for rough fish has been postponed to an indefinite date. Fishing in the impoundment has been fair and may get better as the water is drawn down. Mlnersville and Otter Creek rservolr are producing some nice fish. Fishing has been on the slow side but is picking up on both waters. Conservation Officers are out checking lakes and streams for violations of the law. Common problems include fishing without a license or not having it while fishing, fishing with more than one pole, littering and overpossession of fish. |
