There is always Someone with health problems. Leah Griffin went to Cedar City to the doctor and he sent her on to Salt Lake City for surgery. Steven and Sheldon Steed went to Page and brought their mother. Mary Kazan home. Mary had her twin brother, Mark Bybee, his wife and two small children here from Monroe for the weekend. Andrew Spencer is feeling better but he has to stay indoors when the wind blows, which is a big percent of the time. Clyde Spencer Is looking better since getting out in the sun when the weather permits. Nell Barker Is home. She went from Salt Lake City to St. George and stayed several days then Paul Cardon brought her to Panguitch where Minnie Davis met her and brought her home. She has laryngitis but they think it is a cold rather than a result of her throat surgery. Daniel and Orilla Cowles had a visit from John and Twila Michilangelo and daughter Sheri from California. Koleen Wayne took Chuck to Salt Lake City so he could fly back overseas to his job. Howard and LaVerd Larsen of Gunnison visited at the Earl Woolsey home. Harriet Nutter rented a big U-Haul and is trying to get their belongings loaded so they can join Harold in Michigan where he has a job. Lloyd and Betty Alvey went to Salt Lake City where he had an appointment with his doctor. Daughter Christine and Mable Griffin accompanied them and attended the ice follies. Joy Reid went to Salt Lake City and met her neice, Marlene Ludgate of Wyoming and bi ought her here to visit and attend the junior prom which was held Friday night with decorations and an orchestra imported from Cedar City. The young people must not want the adults to attend their dances. They charge a big sum for spectators which would be ok if they didn't turn off the lights so they can't see anything. This modern music iss so loud they can't visit so what's the use of going? We are looking forward to the next dance with muse by Val Veaters orchestra. Sharon Dale Marsh spent several days in Cedar City with Shirley. Mayo Roundy went to Panguitch to have his arm sewed up after being injured at Bernard Schow's sawing project. Richard and Edna Williams of Las Vegas are here to help John and Ethyl Foster with the farmwork and animals. They are trying to find a place to live. Evan and Loise Reeves of Las Vegas were here visiting the Lorenzo Griffins and gathering antiques. Reeves and Laura Baker had son Wilmer and family here from Orem for a two-day visit. The four lively children added variety to their grandparent's life. Darreli and Dianne Alvey and their horses spent the weekend in St. George. Other horse lovers from here were also there. Fred Wilson and wife, Shirley are trying to get local citizens interested in square dancing. A few responded but there seems to be a lack of males interested in tripping the light fantastic. If you are interested contact Fred or Shirley. Ruth Alvey went all by herself to Kanab to stay with her grandkids while La Dell and Karen went on a trip to Florida. Before her departure Ruth entertained the lonely hearts group at her home. Dot Coombs and daughters of Boulder joined Sariah Alvey and myself for a trip to Richfield. La Vina Pollock Joined us to celebrate her birthday anniversary with Guy and Vonda. Gerakfcne Uun and sn Gary Lane. Nina Riley, EWa Haws and Phyllis Alvey were there the same day. We visited briefly with Edra Miller, Merle Stowe. the Bernard Henries, and Leonard Wileock. Arhs and Melba Brooks went to Sevier Valley to get some calves then took them through the branding process Betty Alvey and son Tony took Wallace Roundy to Cedar City to the eye doctor. Others having business there were Jaleen Pollock, Alberta Liston, Deon, Denise and Raylene Alvey. Debbie Norman, Barbara Munson. Kathy Carter and the Smiths. Jed, Garneal and Vida Beth Liston was home for the weekend and brought Melanie Roundy and her roommate. The Doyle Cottams had son Myron and family home for the weekend. Gwcn and Randal Lyman went to Mt. Pleasant to attend a homecoming reunion of students of the Wasatch Academy centennial celebration. There were 750 in attendance, six of their teachers were present. The class of 25 presented gold medallions to the class of '75. The oldest one in attendance was Lue Chafin of Wayne County who was 98. They came from all over the United States. Randi Beatty had her parents, the Dell Beattys here from Hurricane for the weekend. The Grant Spencers had son Bob here from Orderville. Sariah Alvey celebrated her 85th birthday aniversary Firday, April 25 with family and friends, in and out all day. A comedy fantasy in three acts was presented Thursday and Saturday nights in the ward Cultural Hall. It was directed by Lillian Coleman. It was entitled "Down to Earth" and the three angles were Vernon Spencer, Deon Alvey and Gary Fontaine. Supporting cast were Cindy Fontaine, Leah Griffin, Dawn Griffin, Susan Wilson, Marge and Dan Baird, Rhonda Button, Camille Spencer, Lynn Button, Hyrum Colemen, and Frank Rowley. The play was put on to help with the church building fund and was well attended both nights. In sacrament meeting Sunday the program was presented by the Relief Society with Pres. Minnie Davis in charge. The counselors, Dixie Mitchell and Ruth Hale talked along with class leaders, LaRue Spencer, Nelda Willis, Gwen Lyman and Ruby Griffin. Deon Alvey, Marlene Haws and Geraldine Liston sang accompanied by Areola Gates. She also accompanied the Relief Society chorus in three numbers. Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Cottrell of Los Angeles have leased the old Ormond home in the northwest part of town for one year. They have a 16 year old daughter Ann who is attending high school here. They also have a young granddaughter here visiting. |
