Show r Bobcats Dump Milford In Gridiron Homecoming Thriller A week of Bobcat Homecoming activities was climaxed on Thursday afternoon by the stunning Bobcat victory over the Milford Tigers. In the most exciting football game witnessed in some time, the Panguitch Bobcats upset a strong Milford team 30 to 28. It was a day when the Bob cati would accept nothing less than a victory and they made this obvious from the opening klckoff which Randy Hatch returned 80 yards for a touch down. The attempted two-point conversion was good on a pass play from Allen to Burning-ham, giving the 'Cats a quick eight-point lead. The Tigers quickly recovered from the shock and came back with eight points of their on a screen pass good for 30 yards and the TD followed by a two point conversion to tie 8-all. In the second quarter on a questionable pass interference call, Milford was given the ball on the Bobcat 15. The Tigers took advantage of the call and went on to score another TD but failed on the conversion as the score shifted to 14-8 In favor of Milford. For the moment the score appeared to be only a minor result of the pass Interference call. The shocker for the 'Cat players and fans was the fact that quarterbek Russell Allen was ordered out of the ball game as a result of his comments on the call. Even before the shock of losing Allen had eased, Ken Barney stepped Into the quarterback slot and was on his way for a 40-yard run and a TD. Birch Moore added the two and the'Cats led 16 to 14. A few plays later the 'Cats' defense stopped a Tiger drive with a pass Interception by Englestead. Ken Barney again stepped In and engineered an other 'Cat drive and a 39-yard scoring pass play to Randy Hatch to give the 'Cats six more. The attempted two-point conversion failed and they settled for a 22-14 half time lead The second half presented no lull in the excitement as Milford came back In the third quarter with a 76-yard TD run and two more on the conversion to tie the game 22-22. In the 4th quarter Milford again blasted through the 'Cat defense on a 28-yard TD run. The 2-polnt conversion failed and they were forced to settle for a 28 to 22 lead. The 'Cats were not to be denied a victory; Ken Barney came up with a screen pass to Moore good for 25, followed by a 20-yard pass play to Bur-ningham for the TD. Randy Hatch again added the two and the 'Cats took over the lead 30 to 28 - - a lead they hung onto in the last desperate minutes to beat the highly regarded Milford team. |
