Show Escalante Chit Chat BY FAY ALVEY The weather stays nice but really too dry, a storm was . forecast but never did arrive. There are so many sick folks it Is frightening; Mont Griffin is back in the Panguitch Hospital feeling very rough, Ruth Alvey is also there, her blood pressure went out of control so she Is undergoing tests to find the cause. Forest spent Sunday with her and LaDell and family came from Kanab to visit. Verge Spencer Is in the Veteran's Hospital in Salt Lake City still being tested, he is running a high fever and they are trying to locate the cause. Shirley went up with him but came home to see to Tammy. Spence Haycock had surgery and stayed for recovery and more tests, Hazel Is still there, her son Bruce also had surgery and developed pneumonia. Mary Lynn Sidwell went up and stayed until the operation was over then came home. Golda Cottam went to Panguitch to the Doctor, she has that blamed old misery in her back. Twi-la Mclnelly has one finger in a guard and bandage. She got It in the meat slicer at the store. Dennis Lott went North for treatment of a virus. Pauline went with him but had to get back for school so Dale Wilson went and flew her home. The rest of the sick are about the same. Fon and Starns Mecham went to Cedar City for medical checkup, Areola Gates and kids for dental appointments, Ann Munson, Leah Griffin and Lynn Gates for other business. Irene Alvey was entered In the homecoming queen contest by a fraternity at SUSC made up of returned missionaries, Betty and Johnny went over for the. program and took me along for the ride. There were sixteen lovely contestants and Irene was among the eight finalists, we thought that was pretty good for a Freshman. Evelyn Lyman was helping the Judges get located and she carried the envelopes, we visited with her briefly. The Jocal High School held their homecoming week; Cam-llle Spencer was voted Homecoming Queen with Marge Gates and Claudia Roundy as attendants. The Halloween Carnival held at the elementary school was well attended by spooks and spectators. The Griffins, Gene Thais, Mark and Leah, went to St. George to go through the Temple. Gene, Thais and girls took Mark to Salt Lake City: to enter the mission home. The De-lane Griffins had son Qulnn home over the weekend, he was leading Donene Llston around. Marvin Mounteer and family went to Orderville for the christening of their granddaughter born to Paul and Re-nee, they made it home in time for Jerry to talk in the South Ward Sacrament meeting, there was other business; Sharon Dale Marsh was released as first counselor to Bishop Griffin. Robert Llston was changed from second to first and Bill Neal put in second counselor. Bill and Babs talked briefly so did Delane and Robert. The North Ward speakers were Yukon Norman, Deon Alvey, and Geneal Shurtz, Usher Spencer sang. Janeen and Brad Duncan were weekend visitors at the Arnold Alvey home. Grace Barney spent several days in Cedar City with Mack and family. The Leo Wilsons had business in Richfield. Chuck and Dorothy Wayne spent several days here and Dorothy remained for a longer visit. A Valley Finance meeting was held here with Reed Thompson and Sherrill Morrell coming "from out of town. Gurena Robinson served dinner after the meeting. Blake and Gurena went to Koosharem for the wedding of a neice. Maureen and Max Hlsky of Granger were visitors at the Randal Lyman home, Maureen is Gwen's sister., they all went fishing. Tom Barlow of Junction was here, so was Jim Yardley of Panguitch. Claron and Ruby Griffin had business in Salt Lake City. Minnie Davis and grandson Robert Smith visited the Al Fosters in Tropic. When Ray L. Alvey went home after the hunt he took me to Mapleton to visit my kids, Dewey Willis brought me back to Henrleville Friday night. We traveled in a snow storm for a while but the further South we came the less snow. Fred and Nina Riley went to Reno, Nevada, to celebrate his 75th birthday anniversary with family members. Gordon Stak-er was released as MIA President and Jay Porter sustained to the office. Stake quarterly conference was held Sunday in the South Ward Chapel with a large attendance. President Lorell Munson was in charge. Berlin Os-born was released as his first counselor and Clive Bybee put In his place. Vernon Spencer was sustained as second counselor. The Relief Society Chorus sang two numbers and talks were given by Lorell Munson, Berlin Osborn, Vernon Spencer, Carolyn Williams, Bill Neal, Brent Cottam, Cllve By-bee and the visiting authorities Mr. and Mrs. David Halght. |
