Show scoUT MASTER din CLOSES U A C course to be great help to the farming areas of the state the fifth annual scout Af masters asters school held at the agricultural college ot of utah came to a close the evening ot of february 15 with a court of 0 honor meeting in which a large number ot of boys received the awards of 0 their efforts there were five eagle scouts and one ten year veteran who received awards that night an inspirational address on the spirit of scouting was made by scout executive oscar A kirkham of 0 salt lake city the scout masters school has been an outstanding one according to dr george I 1 hill dean of the school of 0 agriculture of 0 the utah agricultural college who had the work in charge according to dr hill there were eighty men who were registered and in full time attendance and more than fifty alty others who attended part of 0 the sessions these men came from strictly rural communities representing the towns and hamlets of utah idaho and wyoming it was the alm aim ot of the course to give these scout masters something that they could put over directly to country boys and according to statements of 0 many men themselves the farming areas ol of the state are going to be made infinitely richer by these scout master schools three special lines ot of work were taken up extensively in the school these were games gaines and recreational methods by coach joseph R jenson jensen stories and story sources from literature history and nature by several men on the college staff and boy psychology by professor henry peterson in addition other very matters were discussed with the men each evening was given over to typical scout meetings in which scouting activities were carried on by the men themselves organized and directed by scout executive victor lindblad ot of logan regional scout executive charles N miller and scout executives oscar A kirkham ot of salt lake city A A anderson ot of provo S D young ot of ogden oden and victor lindblad ot of logan contributed to the course dr J H paul ot of the university ot of utah gave a lecture illustrated with motion ot of the hat island bird rookeries rook eries the outstanding feature ot of the program however was an inspiring address by chief scout executive james E west ot of the boy scouts ot of america chief west came from ogden by automobile after 10 at alg night t and talked to the audience which packed the lecture room in the plant industry building tor for nearly an hour from 1130 p ra to 1230 a in after which he was taken to cache junction to catch his train tor for portland chiet chief west is very optimistic about the future of america with seven hundred thousand boys and men ordering their lives and acting in accordance cor dance with the scout oath and law great will be the future ot of any nai tion the boys and men of which conform to such a code said chief west |
