There are still people struggling with the flu and when it gets mixed with Spring fever it is quite a problem. Reed Wooley went back to Panguitch to have his leg checked, it is coming along fine, he asked me to thank everyone for their visits, cards and letters and to express his gratitude to the Doctors and nurses and all the hospital staff who showed him such kindness. Reed gets out in the jeep with son Ronnie to do his bidding, then when they get several town board members Ronnie feels like there were too many chiefs when he is the only Indian. Starns Mecham had to come home from Idaho, he just could not breathe properly in that altitude, Lane List on and Jed Smith stayed, but wished they could come home until the snow and cold were gone. The Forest Service gave a farewell party and going away present to the Craig Whittekikiends, who have moved to the Ogden district. Mother Alvey had a letter from Bula Sparks of Provo who told news of former residents; her Motl'cr. Sopha Shurtz is bedridden, she cannot talk but knows everyone and can make known her wants Remember Bula sn. Lavon Blood, who disappeared thirteen ears a-go and was declared officially dead? She got a letter from him in Texas so she and her new husband went to see him. He did not know of the death of his father. Lori- Rlnod. They met Minerva Heaps on the street and she sent regards to everyone back home. She wants to thank everyone for cards and letters of condolence she got at the passing of her husband Joe in American Fork. Morris and Neta bad a visit from Ellen and Oliver Jenzen of Cedar City. They took them around to see some of th local scenery. Ellen was born and raised in Glendale, our neighbor, so she called me up and told me news of our mutual acqalntances which was very enjoyable. Yukon Norman, her daughter Lena Livingston and Jane Woolsey went to Panguitch. The Chamber of Commerce have planned a mutton fry to be held May 10 at 2:00 p.m. on the North Ward Church grounds. Leon Haycock has furnished the mutton and If you cannot eat that type of meat hamburgers will be served. A ,ilete meal for only $1.25 :. id everyone Is Invited. Missed last week the meeting where Bill Briggle from the Lions club In Page, Ariz , the Park Superintendent, Jack Morehead talked to citizens here on the development of the Hole in the Rock facilities and Lake Powell, also the Escalante Enthusiasts held their meeting at the Elementary School with President Coleen Burrows conducting. County Nurse Shana Gouldlng showed a film and two quartets sang. The first with Dawn Griffin as accompanist was Marlene Haws, Deon Alvey, Geneal Shurtz and LaFaye Bailey; the second was a'capella with Coleen Burrows, Louise Liston, Betty Alvey and Clorene Vad-rene. Coleen and Viola Thur-ber were hostesses and served home made Ice cream and cookies. Members of the Friendship Club were special guests. Coleen Burrows had her sister, Mrs. Kay Kelsey of Provo here last week. Osmer and Ev-ie Nielson of Parowan spent several days here, he celebrated his birthday anniversary by having steak supper at the Thurman Spencer Ranch. The Gail Baileys had Gloria and her intended here for the weekend and Donna's father, J. H. Cunningham and his wife from Walnut Creek, California. Dale Wilson brought the Logan College students, Linda Alvey, David Griffin and Marlyn Liston home for the weekend. Dale got another letter from Dr Darryl Chase, president of the college congratulating him on his scholastic acheivements for the past quarter, he had straight A's so we add our congratulations. John and Lola Zenz had visits from Dr and Mrs. Sam Hughes and Mr Ireland of Hi alto. California, and Dr David llwlirs a cancer specialist from Philadelphia and Walt and Doris Roth of Florida. The enzs got word that Bill's wife, Arlene was in the hospital with her back in traction and Lola's sister Marjie had undergone a serious operation. The Reed Thompsons of Cedar City and the Don Swapps of Kanab were guests at the Millie Davis home. He entered 13 and won 9 giving him 4tn place in the as- i. 9oclation The top four went to Pocatello, Idaho, for the World's Championship where he competed against 27 teems and took 4th place, winning a trophy In the 4th division, which waa the only one taken by the Wasatch Slope Doug Haws came as third place team in the All America Association and wound up 5th In the third division Had a surprise visit rum my brother Jim Little. Ha three boys, Bud, Kim, and Mark of Mldvale and his fatlier -in-law. Quince Houston of Panguitch, they had dinner here then took In the racea. Tommy Ray Houston stayed at the S. J. Alveys and never did get his directions straight. Do not feel badly Mr. Houston, I have lived here over thirty years and still do not have these directions straight, the sun comes up In the south. Dot and Anthony Coombs of Boulder joined us here and we went to Little's ranch to help mother celebrate her 82nd birthday anniversary, all of her kids were there, the first time we had all been together since the fan of '48. Two members of a family had birthday anniversaries last week, Wallace Roundy became 80 and his sister Joanna Barker 88. The Gall Baileys have Donna's father J H Cunningham and wife here from Walnut Creek, Calif This daylight saving time at night ia Just too fine for words, but getting up so early Is strictly for the birds |
