Show Escalante Chit Chat - PAY ALVEY Mean old January with its sickness, slick roads and frozen water pipes is half gone so we have hopes of survival. There are colds and more colds settling in people's weakest parts, surprising how many it strikes in the head. Some give up and go to bed, others just keeep plugging along. The hospital sick have improved considerably: Wayne Barney has gone to Provo with daughter Jean Ikaard but has to go the 20th for a checkup before coming home. The three in the Panguitch hospital, Charley Bailey, Becky Griffin and Anice Schow are all on the improve. Alice was trying to locate a wheel chair so they could bring Charley home. We can quit worrying about Morris and Neta Shirts now that they have arrived safely home from their holiday trip to Texas. They traveled 1,256 miles and enjoyed every mile, also the two weeks they spent with Art and Carol Joy Cooper. They sent best wishes to everyone. Enroute home the Shirts' visited the Grant Mc-Mullens, who have a new son born in October, they also sent best wishes. They arrived home on Sunday and had a telephone call that daughter Nadene was very ill so left on Monday morning for Provo where Neta stayed a week to care for her. Morris went back up and finding Nadene much better brought Neta home. A letter from Linda Lou Al-vey in I law a i told of meeting and visiting vith Gabby Moore of Panguitch. Linda is anxiously awaiting the visit from the members of her family. Alvln Griffin was sent to Hawaii for a five day rest period. He is stationed at Cam Ranah, Viet Nam and experienced having their mess hall destroyed by the enemy, he has half of his year in. Friends and relatives here are keeping in touch with Gary Don Mecham who is very ill in Boston. Starns Mecham called Sunday and Nell re ported that Gary Don had improved enough to speak a few words. Relatives here got word of the death of Raymond Porter of Price, he is the son of Ellis and Agnus who used to live here. His health has been poor for some time. The Randal Ly-mans got word that daughter Deanna Greer in Aurora, Illinois had a premature baby girl. Randal took Gwen to Salt Lake where she flew to Rlln-ois to be with Deanna. The last report mother and baby were doing fine. Millie Mcln-elly went with them to Salt Lake to visit daughter Elma who has recovered from pneu monia. Vic and Euzell Cottam went to Cedar City to the eye specialist, ami to visit with daughter Verl Gracy and family who were enroute to Long Beach, Calif where Jim has employment on an oil rig. The Cottams had a phone call from grandson Bobby Woolsey who is on a mission in Virginia, said he is an area were there are 70 per cent negroes. Earl and Nethella Woolsey had business in Richfield. Bll-lic Davis had a welfare meeting in Panguitch to Theo Bar ker accompanied him. The achool teachera went to Trop ic to a meeting. Frank Cole man went to Cedar City for a mechanics meeting, kathryn accompanied him. The Stake MIA officers at tended a meeting in Henrie ville. The Stake Presidency went to Richfield for a Region al Welfare meeting. Blake Robinson had business in Provo and Salt Lake City. They have Gurena's mother, Rhoda De-Lang of Koosharem here visiting. Brent and Marie Durfey went to Bicknell to visit relatives. D.U.P. meeting was held last week in their building with 19 in attendance. Rhoda DeLang came and said it was the third meeting she had at tended this month, so she felt like the man we studied, Jo seph S. Black was an old friend. Claron and Ruby Grif fin are on vacation in Calif. Melba Gates took her par nts, Ray and LeNora Griffin to Panguitch to visit the sick Others we heard of having business in Panguitch were John and Yucon Norman, Er-ma Gates, Thais Griffin, June Liston, Nancy Dreubay, Judy Kelly, and Winona Boyle Bash Reese of Wayne county, LaDell Alvey of Kanab, and Keith Johnson of Cannonville were here on Garkane business. The Spencc Haycocks have Richard and Mary Lynn Sid well and kids here from Wyoming A group of contractors were here last week bidding on some BLM projects down on the desert. Delia Christiansen is here from Cedar City. Rela tlves heard that Ken Schow has had an eye operation Those we heard of having bus iness in Cedar City were Lane and Geraldine Liston, and kids Koleen Burrows and kids, Theron and Dixie Mitchell. Lynn Gates, Starns and Faun Mecham, and Janeen Alvey Neal and LeAnn Julander went to Monoe for the funeral services of his grandfather. Ard en and MaeVonn Taylor went to New Mexico with lumber The local Ball team went to Piute and won their second league game and their joys knew no bounds. The Valley Finance held a meeting here on the weekend, those coming from out of town were Reed Thompsons of Cedar City and the Don Swapps of Kanab. Dr. Lars Peterson of Spanish Fork and Rulon Peterson of Salt Lake City visited relatives in town. John Norman's parents are here from Brigham City Whltey Porter got word that his sister, Vera Young was married to Clyde King Beth Smith ha had several letters from son Weldo Woolsey in Vi-t Nam so we know he is still ok. Kate Porter had word from son Gary Chestnut that he has been awarded the Bronze Star Medal for heroism in connection with military operatieons against a hostile force Quot ing from the Army paper, "Sergeant Chestnut's outstanding display of agressiveness, devotion to duty, and personal bravery is in keeping with the finest traditions of the military service and reflets great credit upon himself, the 1st Infantry Division, and Um U nlted States Army." Berlin Os-born and Truman Lyman, some MIA girls sang The North ward had as sneakers Usher Spencer and Elmo Bushnell, and a Sundav School class sang. Keep forgetting to tell vou about hearing from William Mitchell in California with daughter Maida MInellv, he ls enjoying his visit but misses the many friends back home. The Forest Alvcys have a new touring car, but hung onto their old one. He who laughs last is not necessarily best, he may not have caught the Joke as quickly as the rest. |
