Show Escalante Chit Chat BY FAY ALVXY The snow came, not enough to pile up in the valleys but keeps the road men scraping and sanding the steep places, it is officially winter and looks and feels the part. Some folks are all ready for Christmas and others of us are never ready. Karl and Vera Moss are in Salt Lake City where he had surgery. Mont Griffin was due for a checkup and did not feel able to drive so hia nephew Festes drove him over and back. Vernon and Hazel Griffin, son Allen and daughter liable stayed overnight in Richfield with Carolyn and Calvin Eyre, they visited La-wana Muir in Venice, Bobby and Shona Woolaey in Aurora, shopped and had an enjoyable time. Ernie and Mary Erett went to Panguitch for medical checkups, Leah and DeLane Griffin were also in Panguitch. Dixie and Theron Mitchell, Lynn and Mildred Gates went to Cedar City for the Phillips 66 Christmas party, others we heard of having business there were Geraldine Liston, Jaleen Pollock, Arnold and De-on Alvey and girls, Vernon and Margene Stowe and Bob Sorensen, the later went to bring Pat home, she finished her visiting in California and Arizona. The basketball game in Pa-gultch between the local team and Monroe drew quite a number of fans from here. The Blake Robinsons had daughter Ruth Baugh and family here from Tropic. Blake went to Wyoming to get a horse. The Cecil Griffins have a new baby daughter, mother and child are home from the hospital at the home of Nellie Bailey, the proud Grandma. Flubbed again in stating that the Girl Scouts were just started; two years ago Barbara Morre started it, then Nancy Attwood took it over assisted by Christine Smock, the news did not make it out to our corner of town until Tammy Spencer joined up. Tammy accompanied her parents, Verge and Shirlee to Ameri can Fork to bring Dotty home for Christmas. Gail and Donna Bailey went to California to spend the holiday with Gloria and Mac Weinkle Nell Barker went to St. George to spend it with the Paul Cardons. The Edson Alveys have daughter Arvon-ne Whittaker and family here. The Starns Mechams talked to son Ron in Las Vegas and found Quinn and Luella Ron ndy of Phoenix there visiting. The Garfield Stake MIA Leadership meeting was held in the South ward church. Wanles and Dena Alvey went to Cedar City, then on north to visit Dick and Donnie Lee and girls. Mike Serle of Orem was a house guest at the Mclnelly home, he took Twila, A. J. and Grena Kae to Mesa, Arizona to spend Christmas with Dave and Yulonde Mclnelly. Jim Yardley and Sam Allen of Panguitch had business here. The Claron Griffins have Pauline, Dennis and Elaine Lott here from Arizona. Don and Deanna Heap took their baby son to Cedar City and were gone all weekend. The holiday parties have started; the Lions and Enthusiasts Clubs held theirs at Whitie's Cafe; the young mar-rieds met at the Bart Palmer home, the DUP at Gurena Robinson's home, the daughters exchanged gifts and traded a-round until everyone was supplied with what they needed most. The Chase Shurtzs has Marion home, she attended the baby clinic to observe. They have a new setup now, Dr. Ensign from the State Board of Health came to work with La-Vern Lindsay, the County nurse. They really gave the youngsters a thorough examination. Several have asked what i.- on the agenda for the holidays, as near as we could find out there will be a program and Old Santa for the youngsters Christmas Eve in the North ward chapel; the student council is sponsoring a shin dig in the gym the same night, there will be a dance Friday night with Bill Griffin's or- chestra and one New Year's Eve, both in the high school gym. Guy Lemming says every time he plans a trip it snows, so blame him if you do not like it; he and Twila went to Moses Lake. Washington to visit family members. Lola Zenz and Marjie Spencer went to Richfield on a snowy day. The bus took the ball boys and rooters to Page for a game, our boys got beat but not far. Mina and Rol Porter took grandson Kevin to Richfield to the dentist Gene Griffin went to Salt Lake City for freight, his brother Cecil and Randal Lyman went also but we do not know what for. Smith Alvey went to Roy to work with his brother Ray I... Ray run his first race of the season and won it, so the new horse is doing ok. The college kids are all home for the holidays and the Bishops made use of them as speakers; the South ward listened to Evelyn Lyman, Grena Mclnelly, Mike Serle, Kenneth Spencer, Blaine Willis, Lois Barney and girls. The North ward heard Kay Gates, Hlo Ca-pinna, Jo Chrlstensen, then college students Karen and Myron Cottam, Arlene Hall, and Vicki Nelson. Andrew and Isabell Spencer went reluctantly to St. George but weather permitting will be home for Christmas. We have a new Ranger called Sonny 0-Neil and if he wants us to know more about him will he kindly call up and divulge the information. What does celebrating mean? Webster says appropriate rites to show honor publicly, it could be music, gifts and lights. Holiday means to lay off work, the combination don't make sense, all these things mean labor along with big expense. |
