Show League Play Starts With A Bang Regular league play in 'the Garfield-Piute basketball loop started with a couple of real barn burners. You could say it started with a bang or thud - depending on how you were rooting. Coach Englcstead's Pan guitch Bobcats got an early Jump on the Bryce Valley Mustangs on the 'cats home floor lart Friday and at the end of the first half led by 10 points. At the end of the third quarter the Bryce boys were ahead by a point and the fourth quarter was a slam bang affair with first one team edging by a point or two only to be overtaken and passed by the other. It was nip and tuck until the final second with the last whistle finding the Bobcats ahead 57 to 56. It was a heart breaker for Bryce, who on pre-season showing was heavily favored to win this one. Meanwhile over at the Mo-quls home ranch In Escalante the Moquls entertained the Thunderblrds from Piute and almost served the favored T-Blrds a helping of crow. It was only in the final moments that Piute managed to eke out a 0 point win. Gary Norman of Escalante with 24 points led the scoring in the loop, with Panguitch s Kenny Orton's 22 entitling him to second place, followed by the Bobcats J. Crofts with 21, V. Shakespear with 17 points led Bryce scoring. |
