The other grandmother, Laretta Shurtz is with them. Rosa and Jackie Woolsey also have a boy. McKlnley Morrell has been moved from the hospital to the home of his daughter In Salt Lake City and is holding his own. Relatives here got word of the death of a three month old baby girl belonging to the Danny Hardwicks of Mldvale, Danny was in Calif, to National Guard camp. Luclle Cowles la home from a week's vacation in Calif. Her daughter Carolyn was home from her Job in Pangultch. Gerald Griffin, the son of Ernest and Mary, and his family were here visiting and fishing. Bart, Leanna and George Deuel and Hulda Spencer were here from Mt Pleasant to see about telling the Deuel home. Coleen Burrows and two children are home from Provo visiting her folks. Jay Porter has parked his bicycle and Is driving a new pickup, his niece Ann Munson says she speaks for it when he sells it. Ott and Hilda Roundy had all of their family home for the weekend, - they left the new baby to keep Grandma company while the rest went Ashing to help Grandpa celebrate his birthday anniversary. The Morlas Halls had son Joe and family here from Cedar City. Hyrum and Mary Ellen Coleman had her niece Wyla June Mulford and huband Loyd Rymer and son of Lehi, Lytho and Bene Mc-Inelly of San Diego, Calif., they have toured most of the US and Canada. The family reunion of Parley and Ester Coleman was held over the weekend at the Kiab-ab Forest Park and for once it did not rain on them, just sprinkled. Frank. Hyrum and Don Coleman, Leah and Arnold and fariilles went from here. There were 88 present, all the children except two Aftter the reunion the els. ya Frank, Hyrum and Don took their parents and families and spent the day at the North rim of Grand Canyon, visiting the Lodge snd Museum, then came home. Three of Clem Griffin's kids are here divided among the relatives. Beumont and Verda Griffin had a house full and then some, her twin sister Verna and husband Shanan Partridge, their ion Kenneth, his wife Mildred and family of Salt Lake, Wanda and Albert Whitten and ton Clyde, another ton Junior, hit wife Sharee and family, and George and Kae Wardell, aU of Ogden Guess we were a bit premature reporting the sir port completed; Mother Alvey's roomer who worked on It said he wai through so the supposed the whole thing waa wound up Wllford and Koleen Griffin had business in Salt Lake City Sharon Dale Marsh took Shir lee to Cedar City to visit her mother. Evelyn Heaps before she, Evelyn goes Into the hospital for major surgery Eve lyn and Max came over for the christening of the new baby but got here just as the serv- 4am war nVAr Reeves Baker is patting himself on the back for having missed the hay harvest, the first time in 80 ears He hired It done and just took off on a trip acting as guide and camp Jack for s family group. Mr. and Mrs Man and two teenage sons from Detroit. Michigan The father, Peter Is a lawyer and he and his w"e Jane are both photographers so they took pictures all the way. They went by car to Willow Tanks, Reeves' hauled horses in the truck and took camp equip ment. then they packed the horses and walked the 30 miles to Coyote Gulch taking five days for the trip. This is the 4th such trek this summer. Mac LeFevre went when Reeves was not able. Reeves enjoys these trips, he says the people are mostly middle class hard working who were raised in the country and are now living In cities with very confining Jobs and they Just want to get away from it all. We asked him how they dressed for the trip and he said mostly shirts and jeant, quite heavy boots or gym thoes, some of them wore practically nothing except sun tan lotion. In Sacrament meeting Sunday Reeves was one of the speakers In the South ward and asked how many in the audience had been to Coyote Gulch and six hands were raised, and folks come from clear across the continent to see it, they mostly come on recommendation of someone who has made the trip. The other speakers were Lorenzo Griffin and J. Clyde Spencer. The North ward listened to Chase Shurtz, Hal Shurtz and Berlin Osborn. The Allen Pollocks have daughter Fay Van Oostendorp and two little girls here from Calif. Koleen Griffin drove the Pollock car and she and Lavina met Guy in Panguitch where Koleen visited relatives while Lavina and Guy went to Cedar City to get them, then Koleen drove home from Panguitch and Guy went back to Richfield, then he brought his family and came for the weekend. Lynn Gates and DeRay Porter have made several trips searching out a new signal for TV, they gave up the Parker Mountain as a possibility and finally settled on the Griffin. They had two experts come from Salt Lake City to help get it set up. Walt Lelbenguth was flown to the Page hospital for observation. Miles Lee of Salt Lake was here and had to tell folks who he was then he went fishing and camping and when he got back had to tell them again his identity, he said he was the dirtiest old man on the mountain. Coach Excell is doing a good Job with the Little League base ball boys, he took them to Pangultch to play and they lost by 3 points. Evan and Nickl went to Price to look for living quarters, he is scheduled to teach there next. Ivan and Nelda Willis went to Richfield and visited then on to Magna to see Lowell and Dorthy. They are tickled pink over Lowell's new job, he has a position with the Kennecott Copper Co. In the lab. department at a fabulous wage and good fringe benefits, congratulations Lowell. Visitors at the Melvin Alvey home were Joe and Elizabeth Foy of Pangultch. Mary and Frank Wor-then and Kevin and Karen Worthen of Price. A shower was held at the Hode Alvey home for Boyd and Opal. Her mother Freda Talbot and sisters Melody, Arte and Laretta came from Pangultch and Boyd's sisters Merle Hansen from Salt Lake City and Thelma Smith from Hen-rieville. The newly weds have a new trailer house parked on the Melvin Alvey property. Vernon and Rula Spencer had visits from Paul and Shir-lee Dahl, their four boys and one girl, and Shlrlee's parents. Mr. t id Mrs. Johnson. Paul has taught In Orem the last three years and is now going to Tucson, Ariona Other visitors were Verl and Art Young. Sally and Mont Watson of Poca-tello. Idaho. Norma and Tom Mav and Iwn children nf Kail Lake. These ladles were cousins of Rula's and they were raited together In Joseph, very close. Vin Spencer took a load of mud to Leeds so LaRue accompanied him and they visited briefly In Cedar City Clema Barney went back to Page taking daughter Mitzie and leaving Tim for a visit Kite Porter had daughter Janet and husband Bob Nelson of Salt Lake City, they took Lawnle (continued Inside) ESCALANTE (continued trera front page) home, she cme with Bonnie for the 4th. Joan Carden and husband Gordon Wagner and three boys from New York were visitors at the Gordon Haycocks. Gordon, the Wagner teaches in college In New York and is working on his PHD. Haxel Haycock finally got the borrowed car put back to gether and got it home, son Bryce is In a cast from hip to toe and says he don't even have to get dressed. Just wear ahorts. Richard and Mary Lvnn Sidwell went to Calif, to the wedding of Richard's father. It was a big church wedding and Mary Lynn said Richard was more nervous than the groom or best man either The Rol Porters had Marie and Kenneth Griffin and fam- lly of Provo, Merrill and part of his family from Mesa. Arli-ona The Blake Robinsons have granddaughter Kae Lynn Staples of Richfield and some of their Porter grandkids from Provo Ada Porter had a lively weekend; John and Erma Ha mllton. daughter Paula, son Kenny and wife. Paul and Pam Dilly. then Paula's friend Danny Nelson came from Salt lake Let tie and Milo Boyce had Verda and Ed Stander. Lawrence and Cheryl Stander from the Ogden area. Ethyl Pollock had son Gary and wife Barbara from Keams anu granddaughter Sandra and her new husband Don. J.C and Eva Haws of Brigham City visited relatives here and Boulder, so did Dr. Lars Peterson and wife Helen of Spanish Fork, they came for the Haws reunion held in Boulder. Quite a number went from here, but not all that should have. The Claron Griffins, the Whltey Porters, the Ed Mitchells and the DeRay Porters all made it home safely from their trip to Washington. Oregon and surrounding places. Gerald and Norma Black chartered their course and made reservations. They had a comfortable cottage at Ocean City on the seaside where Gerald taught them to dig clams. Thev had to wait until the tide went out then look for a little suction hole which told there was a clam under the sand, then just dig him out and get back before the tide came back, it was wet, dirty and sounds like work but they had a wonderful time. White'y and Maralda went 120 miles out of their way to visit son Bill and family in Calif., and as soon as they got home went to Provo for the wedding of grandson Layne Griffin, son of Donald and Darlene. They say we should not spread gossip. Its exlstace is sinful enough. It's malicious and degrading but what else can you do with the stuff? |
