Show j Escalante ChitCha FAY ALVEY The weather is hot and sultry, a few clouds but they keep their moisture. The work is holding up better than our strength and ambition, the weeds are thriving more than anything else. We never heard of any serious illness but we had a near tragedy; Curtis and Denise Larson and family were here from Salt Lake visiting at the Lovell Twitchell home; their eighteen month old son wandered unnoticed out to the irrigation ditch and fell in. She finally heard him crying and located him, under the bridge hanging to a rock, Curtis waded in and rescued him. They were all shook up and asked that something be done to eliminate this hazard. The small son of Ervin Cur-rows fell from a neighbor's swing, lighting on his face and ruined his identity.. He had no broken bones but was really banged up. Janeen Alvey and Mable Griffin were hospitalized a night and day after being thrown from a horse. Janeen was only bruised but ' , Mable had a broken arm, her left one just above the wrist. Arnold said he knew better than to put kids on Money Can but that is another case of kids out-talking their parents. Missed several items last week; Daniel and Orilla Cowl-es had son Alvin and family here from Salt Lake, and Danny Reid is home on furlough from Fort Lewis,- Washington. Ross Woolsey left his job in Wyoming to come take his physical for the Service. John and Lola Zenz entertained two fellows from the University of Utah, Lee Newcomer and Bill Stuart representing the Area Development Adm. They could see the necessity for better roads so more people could enjoy the scenery more safely and comfortably. The Zenz folks also entertained Paul and Arna Casin and three daughters from Cedar City. Lewis and Jean Griffin and members of their family who were not already here came from Provo for a two week vacation. Neta Haycock spent some time in Cedar City attending her new grandson. Gurena Robinson came home from Prcvo bringing some of her grandkids along. Wanda Mellor and daughter Sherry and her new baby came from Henderson, Nevada to visit friends and see about their property here. Beth Woolsey went to the doctor and was told she could sleep without her brace now. Leanna Deuel and boys went to Provo to visit her mother Annie King, La-retta Spencer accompanied her and went on to Coalville to visit daughter Vicki Davis. Mary Ellen Coleman and daughter Irene Mclnelly took a load of pigs to Richfield to the slaughter house and went to the dentist for three days. David Marcellus Woolsey had a visit from Mr. and Mrs. Give Newman of Ogden and their daughter Carolyn Hillier of Geneva and her baby. They wanted to take Marcellus back with them but he thought of ! numberless excuses why he i could not leave. Harold and i Wanda Griffin and Lon and Evelyn Heps of Salt Iake were here for the weekend. Gene Griffin is putting a new face on his Barber shop. Marion Spencer and .Jim Alvey have a trap line and have caught gophers, squirrels nd mice but hit the jack pot with a bob cat, they brought it to town to show it off, dead of course. Hilo and Lettle Boyce had daughter Ardeth Alexander and family here from Ogden. Some of the male population were all excited over a new blond coming to town, curva-cious and a basket hairdo. They discovered it was none other than Sherry Boyle after a trip to the beauty parlor. Lizzie Porter, son Cal and daughter Lillian Coleman made a business trip to Richfield and Lizzie stopped at the hospital in Panguitch to go through Dr. Duggins' drawers and get some free samples. Dot Coombs came from Boulder, picked up myself and Sariah Alvey and went to Panguitch, those two for medical checkups and me for the ride. Slim and I went over again Saturday and on to Little's Ranch where we found Jim and Sarah D. Little and three of their boys from Midvale. The folks from the Ranch were here last week to get some apricots. Ora Schow took a load of ' the fruit North to peddle, Millie Mclnelly accompanied her for the experience. Deon Alvey, Marlene Haws and son Ricky went to Panguitch for medical checkups. The S. J. Alveys had a .weekend visit from Luther and DeAnn Smith and daughter, they have been going to school in Provo but are returning to Kennewick, Washington. Hobert and Bonnie Smith and son Robert were visitors from Cedar at the Billie Davis home, Billie has a new Mercury. Kay Gates has one of these little cars that looks like a cockroach, some little boys were looking it over and one said the motor was in the back and another said it could not be cause the steering wheer was in front. The District Riding Club meet was held as scheduled with a good attendance and lots of spirit. The local participants winning honors were Louise and Robert Liston, Arnold, Darrell and Dianne Alvey, Glen Luellan, Mel Brooks, Pratt, Kay and Harvey Dean Gates, Stanley Liston, and Em-meron Peterson. Grant Liston had a visit from his sister Lois Sprake and two of her daughters, Paula and Janis. In Sacrament meetings Sunday the North ward had as speakers Alton Shakespear, Chase Shurtz and Marion Clark. The South ward had four speakers, Pres. E. Dee Haws, Earl Woolsey, Mai-en Mecham and Harold Soren-son, the latter Is here as a County Road Inspector. Denise Larsen sang accompanied by Sandra Porter. Escalante has a new assistant Ranger to take the place of Hank Cheatum, Grant Thor-son, a native of Provo and transferred here from Cedar City. Gene and Renon Reed were visitors at the Ott Roundys, Delle Barker had son Roy and family here from Salt Lake. Some don't believe in love at first sight, it just couldn't happen they say, If it could be arranged It would be nice, they'd save time and money that way. |
