Show Panguitcli Bobcats Win Region 9 Basketball Championship THE CILMPIONS The big five of tho Panguitch Bobcat basketball team get the Region 9 Championship trophy after defeating Gunnison in flial game of the regional tou-ncy a Mt. ' Continuing their winning ways the Panguitch Basketball Bobcats wen three more in a row to cop the Region 9 championship in round robin Uurney last week at Mt. Plea-Kant. First win was Thursday by 51 to 22 score over Juab. On Friday they took on South Sovicr in the game which had ben talked up beforehand rs the "championship" go winning 49 - 40. In the championship game Saturday night they defeated Gunnison 52 to 49. Big Gary Hill of Gunnison scored 24 points against them but could not offset the Bobcats woll-roundcd five man offensive. Richards scored 16, Orton 11, Turek 10, Tebbs 9, and Riggs 6. Their winning streak isin-iact at 23 straight wins, and they looked like real champions in winning the regional tourney. Not one Bobcat was benched on fouls during tho entire three days of play. Scoring honors were almost equally divided between Louis Tebbs, Brent Turek, Wally Orton, Joe Riggs, and Ned Richards the 'cats big five. Substitutes saw action in only one game, the one against Juab. After losing to So. Sevier Thursday, Piute came on to beat Juab and Emery to gain 4th place and a trip to the State tourney. Gunnison in 2nd place, and South Sevier with wins-over Piute and No. Sanpete" for 3rd place, fill up the roster of region 9 ellgi-bles for the state tourney. |
