It looks rather odd seeing folks Irrigating and haying in coats and ear muffs. The Alveys are patronizing hospitals now; Edson is In the Panguitch hospital recovering from surgery. He was " ready to come home but the doctor was- not ready to release him. Hotie Alvey went to Page where he had a piece of bone taken from his hip and grafted Into his heel. He stayed there a week then Ila and Boyd went to see if he was in shape to come home. The Hobert Smiths took their eight pound son to Panguitch for an operation. Lay-ton Griffin thinks his thumb ds well on the way to healing now, but- his arm and shoulder are bothering him from having been bound to his side for so long. Lots of folks have had sore throats and other symptoms of Flu. The Business section of the town looks really citified as they have the pedestrian lanes painted in white, but that does not keep the natives from jay walking. The cowboys are moving the cattle from the desert to the mountain range. The calf crop looks good. Harve Bailey and son Wayne are here gathering their critters. Harve brought In a special bug from the North, said It was his fish bait, He took it to church Sunday and Lizzie Porter and Neta Shirts mur-dered It In cold blood. Morris and Neta Shirts went to Orem to take their granddaughter Brenda Sorf nson home after a short visit here. They went on to Salt Lake, as they had tickets ' ; for Lagoon. They met son Alpine and her brother De-ward Hall and tried every 7 " racer and whlrly-gig thera and still managed to get-homo In shape for Sacrament meeting Sunday afternoon when Blanl Willis reported on his mission. His grandmother, Alta Henderson of Cannon-villa and Mr. and Mrs. Mayo Rlggs of Panguitch were in attendance. Blaine's brother- I 5 : 3 . in-law Wayne Dean also talked and Marion Shurtz played a piano solo. In the North Ward Robert Wells a brother to Rula .Spencer, and Louise Liston talked, and Areola Gates played an organ solo. Marlene Haws and Deon Alvey helped their five-year-old daughters celebrate their birthday anniversaries with the. help of many little people Vergene Porter and family came from Page to visit and he helped gather cattle., Mary Ellen Lay and the Emery Porters of Marysvale were here visiting friends and relatives. Nelda Skinner of Provo visited here last week The Elmer Moosmans and the Devoe Scovills and son Visited a week with Beumont and Verda Griffin. The Vic Cottams and the Leo Wilsons have shiny new cars and Klinn Haws and Robert Liston have some not so shiny. The Roland Porters went to Provo, Morgan and Vernal to visit relatives and see about a teaching job. Maria Adair has her son Russel Porter here on a month furlough from Alaska, he says he has five more months there, he Is driving mall to help pass tho time, his old pals are about all gone from the country. The Frank Imlays had a short visit from his cousin, Myra Parker of Cedar City. She came with her brother-in-law Bruce Parker who was here on business. John and Erma Hamilton came from Magna and visited Alda Porter, leaving their youngest daughter Paula here they went on to Las Vegas where daughter Mary and her husband and son Bobby and wife met them to celebrate their wedding anniversary. Their other daughter Pamela went back to California with Mary. Their youngest son Kenny who won honors as a ball player brought his bride and visited Aunt Ada. The Blsh Schows had Gall and Maxlne Alvey and six children here for a weekend. They also went to Boulder to visit his parents the Arthur Alveys. Lawrence Chynoweth of Henrleville was here Sunday on business. The Wallace Roundys had son Jerry, his wife and another couple, Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Paulson of Logan here as overnight guests. They had been to the World's Fair at Seattle then 1 down the coast visiting Dis- neyland then here and werefl going to Provo where the sem- inary teachers are to attend! school. 'Jerry will teach again j in Ashton Idaho. The Kenneth Clarks wcrel here Sunday showing off al baby daughter, Mrs. Clark is the former Roma Bailey. fj The Lorenzo Griffins had ; daughter Lois, her husband I Even Reeves and. their twin i daughters of Kannaxville, they also have Gary who is the second son of Lewis here for his vacation. They got word from son Gerald that lie is going to South America around the Horn to Pen-sacola, Florida, then to new Jersey and back to California. The S. J. Alveys had the William Chidesters, of Bick-nell, and Eph and Ordella Davis of Idaho here visiting and hunting old telephones. Theron and Dixie Mitchell and small daughter went on vacation to San Diego, Cal., Veda accompanied, them as that Is where Jerry lives. William Mitchell had a telephone call from his daughter Nalda Mclnelly .In California for him to meet her in Salem at Flora's so he did, and his other daughters, Retha, Verna and Orthella were all there, It would have been a complete reunion of Father and daughters if Lavene could have come from Indiana. The Morlas Halls have daughter Marilla Jolly and small daughter from St. George here. Their other daughter, Shirlene, and her husband are moving in the So-pha Schurtz home; Lillian went on to Albuquerque, to visit her mother while her sister Lillian goes on vacation. The scheduled demenstra tlcn of freezing and canning fruits and vegetables was given here last week with Flora Bardwell, Jane Miller and Doctor Spindler as guest speakers and demonstrators. It was disappointing to seo such a small group take advantage of this opportunity. Are we satisfied with the old methods of doing things? Or are we too busy doing things the same old way to get out and learn more up to date methods? Or just too darn tired? Among the many interesting visitors at the Rock Shop last week were two couples from Switzerland who had flown here and were touring the country by auto, they were interested in the scenery and rocks and took small souvenirs home. They conversed in their native tongue except when talking to John and Lola. Hulda Spencer spent a week in Page with Bernard and Ora Schow and returned home to get ready for the Deuel reunion. Polly Spencer is living in her own home again and Lena Deuel helps her out, Lena hopes someone finds and returns her purse as she does not like being without purse or script. It seems I owe another apology for injuring the dignity of Arnold and Deon Al-vey, saying they had moved to the horse corrall, but for 25 and a half vears it has been inhabited by horses so how else could it be identified? Seems the horses should receive the apology for having " tfc-j move out. Just had a bright thought (believe it or not) why don't some of you who kick about, the column take over and write it so it can be satisfactory for a change. Or should we quit having Esca-lante represented in the Garfield County News? Father's Day is over and Daddy got a thrill, the kids got him a present and charged it on his bill. |
