Bennett (R-Utah) announced Wednesday that the National Park Service will reconstruct Sta Highway 54 through Bryce National Park in Southern Utah. The action will provide you first class road through the Park to Tropic and Escalante for the first timp The road Is now a second claw road, and docs not meet modern standard- for all-wpathcr highways, Sen. Bennett said. - The State, which now owns tho right-of-way, will turn it over to the Federal govern-men, Sen. Bennett explained. After the road has been rebuilt, the responsibility for maintenance will be turned over to the State. The section involved is about four miles long, running from near Tropic to the junction with State Highway 22. The cost of reconstruction will be about $500,000. Money for the road Is already available, and construction will begin during the fiscal year beginning July 1, I960 Sen-ator Bennett said. |
