Show P 1 i fL'i PL i SV FAY ALVEY Escalante Chit Chat Summer finally arrived with the usual pests, flies, mosquitoes, bugs, worms , photographers, salesmen, fishermen telling their stories, and folks on vacation. The gathering of cattle goes on in spite of several interruptions; Gail Bailey had to come home and bring an ulcerated tooth and then take it to Richfield for treatment; Beryl Shurtz pulled a ligament loose In his walking apparatus and it sort of slowed him down: Marion Woolsey got a bug in his ear, he said it was as big as a panther, he finally managed to kiU the critter but it wouldn't come out; and last but not least Chester Lay got bit by the gnats until his eyes swelled shut and he couldn't tell a cow from a deer so he had to quit and go fishing. Many of the men are still hauling hay and the women are busy trying to keep them good natured. Tho sick are mostly better; Mrs. Ruth Wilcox is holding her own, her daughter Virginia Bauer went back to Cedar City; Jim Haycock gets around fairly well on his own power; Sariah Alvey hasn't felt too good but still milked her cows even If she did sit on the milk bucket and milk in the stool. Mr. and Mrs. John E. Davis are not too well bub manage to keep going, they have had two of their daughters home: Mr and Mrs. C J. (Red) Robinson and two daughters Jean and Ladean of Copperton,.and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Ott and daughter Bonnie Christensen j of Salt Lake City. Mr and Mrs. Rodney Cot-tam are proud parents of a baby boy, she is the former Golda Henderson of Cannonville. Mr. and Mrs. Jed Smith and family of Henrieville were weekend visitors at the Clayt Porter home. Dicey Porter and family have all been here, tho boys went to Posey Lake "and camped and fished and Dicey stayed at the Earl Woolsey home; Earl and LaVern got word that their daughter Earline Nelson of Greenriver got pulled from a horse and broke her leg in twelve places, she was riding a horse leading another when the hind horse stopped and the one she was on kept going, she got tangled in the rope and pulled off and one or both horses stepped on her leg. Mrs. Blanche Myers Deuel has been back here on a visit, she was raised here by the Woolsey family. Mr. and Mrs. Allen Pollock and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Imlay went to Richfield Saturday, June 21, where they met Arnold and Howard Alvey from the Northern part of the state and together they visited tho Rest' Home where their father, Thomas Alvey is staying, they took him to a park where they had lunch and visited to celebr.ito Mr. Alvey's 80th birthday anniversary, he Is enjoying fair health and Is quite contented. The Frank Imlays have their son -Francis home on leave, he is in the Navy and when he goes back he will be shipped over seas to the Far East. The Allen Pollocks went from Richfield on in to Salt Lake City, they susplcioned that wedding bells were soon to ring for their daughter Fay. Rosa Lie Porter came home but her mother Elise and two sisters Ann and Kathy stayed in Lehi and vicinity, Elise and Ann had jobs, Rosa Lie was not as interested in Escalante as-in Salt Gulch. Sunday Francis Imlay took his old pal Newell Cowles to Panguitch to catch a bus for Salt Lake City to enter the Mission (continued inside) ESCALANTE home, they planned to visit Bryco Canyon on the way. James Golf of Las Vegas enjoyed his visit here last summer so much that he came again this summer and brought a friend; they are staying at the Stanley Liston home, he is a son of one of Juno's sisters the two boys are prospectors, for blonds. Mr. and Mrs. Bud Ormond of American Fork were here visiting, they had two cute youngsters, a girl and boy with them and it was rumored that they had a new baby which they left in Henrieville with iis urandma, Lavina Chynoweth. Mr. and Mrs. Ne-ven Sheldon and family of Bountiful are here visiting at the Jim Haycock home, Mrs. Sheldon is their daughter Laura. Lewis Griffin took his family and went to Provo to attend summer school, their oldest son Richard got homesick so came home with his grandparents, the Lorenzo Griffins when they stopped there on their way back from their honeymoon. Mr. and Mrs. Hal Shurtz made a business trip North. McKinley Morril and son Sherril of Junction were here on business, they brought Ju- ana Staples and daughter to visit her folks, the Blake Robinsons. Mr. and Mrs. Vern Harrison and daughters from Kansas are here visiting her brother Thurman Spencer and other relatives. Jeff, son of the Reed Thompsons, is back homo and on his feet from undergoing a major operation at the Pangultch LDS Hospital Harvey Bailey came down from Salt Lake City to bring Wayne's family home after a short visit up there. Mr. and Mrs. Rudger Schurtz of Provo came to bring Mother So-pha home, she Is feeling bet-' ter than when she went up; Rudger was in such a hurry to get back to his job that he didn't even take time to kill a pig nor catch a fish. Mr. and Mrs. Will R. Porter and grandson Brent went to Lehi to baby sit with Violet's youngest boys while she and husband take the bigger ones and go on a trip to Yellowstone Park. Arnold Alvey went to Hatch to work for the Gar-kane Power Association. In Sacrament meeting Sunday Mr. and Mrs. Billle Barker took up the time in the South Ward, and In the North were Mr. and Mrs. Lorenzo Griffin, and Douglas Looslec, speakers, and Marlene Haws sang a song. A Forest fire was started and also extinguished Saturday, 21, up Main canyon; the estimated damage was around four hundred dollars. Mrs. Mariah Adair has been to Provo to visit her sister, Mrs. Melda Skinner. Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Creek and family of Idaho are visitors at the Lorin Cottam home, she is their daughter Elna, and he came in here as a music teacher and wooed and won her. Mr. and Mrs, Beum-ont Griffin and Hulda Spencer went to Zions Canyon during the weekend to attend a Deuel Family reunion. On Saturday, June 21, there was a Grand Opening of the Conoco Station on Main street in the center of town, operat- ed by Lynn Gates, three men two of which had wives with them camo to assist In the celebration, there were Mr. and Mrs. Harry Gardner and son of Pangultch, and I suppose the others had names but was unable to find them out. They gave away ball point pens, refreshments (doughnuts, pop, and coffee), gas filled balloons for kids (but they ran out of gas) , tootsle roll prps, and they displayed some electrical appliances to be given away but we never could find out who got them, perhaps it is a Military secret, oh yes they gave every car owner a free chassis Lubrication. f Mr. and Mrs. Frank Cole- man have been visitors at the 5 Lorin Griffin home. A family reunion is being planned for the descendents of William Alvey Senior, it is to be held in Escalante July 26th, every j one who is eligible is urged to attend. Predencio Zabala ! (Joe) has left Richfield and J gone North for hospitalization, j he is lonesome and would ap- preciate getting letters from ! folks he knew, his address: J Veteran's Administration Hospital, Ward No. 8, Bldg. No. 2, Fort Douglas, Utah; or if you happen to be in the vicm- ity call and see Joe.
