Show Unexcelled Scenic Wonders Abound In Area CANNON VILLIi Few will argue the point, least of all the readers of the Garfield County News, but our county is a most interesting place not only from the property owner's view point but as well as the visitor from New Hampshire. To date almost a half a million dollars has been spent to advertise Bryce Canyon, the main attraction of our County, and out of county people will continue to spend fortunes telling the world about this wonder in short, so to speak, Bryce Canyon is "over the hump" in Garfield County. We now should consider some of our other points of " interest. What other county in the State, or what other coun ty in the United States has a highway going through the throat of a volcano, except Garfield County. Our county has a highway- going through the throat of a volcano. The first deep cut in the highway north of Bear Valley Junction. Anyone traveling Highway 89 north of the Bear Valley Junction will notice this cut in the landscape, the cut on the highway is a pale, bluish color. In South Africa they dig deep shafts in the throats of volcanos where the ground has a bluish color, like the road cut north of Bear Valley Junction. Geology is right for diamonds on this Garfield County Highway. We don't believe diamonds are there, we don't advise anyone to search for them at this locality, but we do claim our county has blue ground, in the throat of a volcano (the same as South Africa) . And we have sea turtles in Garfield County, too, much larger than they have found anywhere else In the whole world. Throats of extinct volcanos and world record turtles in Garfield County especially the turtles, we might write about next time, is not news from our town. Anyhow: Allen Clark from Moroni is now visiting with his mother Mrs. Bertha Graff we remember Allen as one of the better sportsmen in our region. People traveling the road through our town will think they are lost when com ing through the north ap proach. Whiting & Haymond, the contractors for this road, have had to change our irrigation ditch in a number of places, June Nelson has represented the Cannonville Irrigation company in these changes. Through June's good offices we believe we will have a better ditch, drainagewise, than wo had before. We are no stranger to Whiting & Hamond Construction. Only rarely we get roads built in our region, but we do hope this company is with us again, they build good roads and they are friendly to our people. |
