Show i CANNONVILLE According to the northern press Utah is going to create a state park along the scenic drive south of our town through Cottonwood to Glen Canyon. And, too, it seems more-certain all the time, Ut- ah Power & Light will selcci tne same shortcut for their transmission to Utah from the Colorado River Empire at Glen Canyon. Last week we traveled to Glen Canyon via the long detour we were with people from New Orleans. On previous visits to Utah these people went to Glen Canyon . through Cottonwood, butthis occasion, having more time, I they wanted to see the other I route. Of course it is a fact construction is underway on the "Cat's Stairs" crossing of the East Kaibab Monocline, but these people, after seeing the project (that Is both projects) declare enough solid rock is being mined and hauled away at the "Cat's Stairs" road to build Utah somewhat of a freeway through Cottonwood to Glen Canyon. In the ordinary course of events we don't believe m petitions or their circulation, but we do subscribe to the one now going around, with many names on it, requesting our Sister County to the south to do something on the roads we have built for them through their region to Glen Canyon. It seems an ironical situation for the Utah Road Commission to give $100.00 per mile on a road they condemned and persistantly ignored, and the people who receive this $100.00 per mile arc opposed to the road and apparently have no intention oi making any effort to maintain it. Our Governor has again promised to make an inspection of what has been accomplished for Utah through Cottonwood. It is common knowledge our Utah National Guard every summer constructs roads in Northern Ut ah and largely on a sectional interest basis. When our Governor comes to Garfield County, why don't wp request him to put the National Guard on duty to improve the Cotton wood Road. Such a prolec? would be beneficial to all of Utah. Well, perhaps not all of Utah, perhaps some ex-members of the Road Commiss'on would argue the Cottonwood Road wouldn't help them any. It appears spring has about sprung in Cannonville. Certain nature lovers will have to . wait until next year to follow tracks through fresh white snow. Mr. Sevy of Bryce Valley High was at a fire side chat in Cannonville last evening, and Mr. Allen of the same school had his chorus sing in Church yesterday. Three generations arc at the Angus Baldwin home these days, Angus and Myrtle, their daughter Gwen, Gwen's daughter, Dianna, and Dianna's son don't know nls name. No black headlines here this week except to say, sap is starting to move through our trees and people. |
