Maybe by "this time next year (or some year) touiists will not have to be turned back or snaked out of the mud as they are at present. Fishing 'season evidently got off to a good start: The streams were less roily than some had feared they would be. Lakes, however, were generally inaccessible and mainly ice-covered when anyone reached them. It was old home week for a good many former residents and their families. Rulon Peterson flew in from Salt Lake. His brother Dr. Lars came from Spanish Fork, his sister and brother-in-law Veri and Roy Hardwicke came from Midvale, and another sister Reva Bailey from Escalante. Their mother and her husband Mr. and Mrs. William Mitchell of Escalante, an aunt Mrs. Sa-riah Alvey of Escalante, another aunt and uncle Mr. and Mrs. Albert Gledhill of Provo, and a cousin J. C. Haws ana .his daughters of Provo all joined them as guests at the iJmeron Peterson ranch, the old home of the Peterson family. They all enjoyed trips to the mountain, where the fishermen among them made, good catches. Jim Haws and his son and Marland Peterson of Salt Lake made it back for the opening days as did Grace and Claron Barney and sons of Escalante, and Melvin Thompson of Lehi. Reed Jeppson and his friends from California were .among those who had good luck on the Boulder streams during the weekend. Otto Haws went to the races in Springville last week. Mrs. Irene King spent several days in Salt Lake attending to business of the state auxiliary to Ihe Cattle and Horse Growers Association, the Cow Belles. Mrs. Flora Baker returned with her sister, Mrs. Doyle 'Mclnelly, for a few days visit at Sevier while her sons Wes- ley and Wayne are learning to ride the range under direction of Ivan Lyman and their uncle Reeves Baker. Jimmy Peterson is spending a week with Mr. and Mrs. Roy Hardwick at Midvale. My sister, Mrs. OnetaShurtz of Garland, is with us for a week. She is one of those who delights in taking pictures of our fine scenic spots. Today we are bound for Devil's Gardens on the Escalante Desert. Mrs. Shurtz, Mrs. Morten- sen and I attended Sacrament meeting at the North Ward in Escalante Sunday to see the christening of little Cheryl Roundy, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Vernon D. Roundy. Mrs. Roundy is the former LaRae King of Boulder. She plans to remain here with her parents, the Clyde Kings, while her husband is away working during Ids 'vacation from Brig-ham Young University. |
