Show County Commissioners Explain How Road Funds Come With some seeking to make a political rootball out of the talslng and use or road runds In Garrleld County, County Commissioners Jennings Allen, Earl Jolley and Jesse. Cherrlngton have prepared the following statement on sources of th. road runds and applications of those runds to road building und maintenance. "Due to some misrepresentation or the facts concerning the Monies for Road Purposes In I he County, the following information Is given to the Tax-Payers ot Garfield County: "In 1954 the Sum of $41,569 was received rrom the State or I'tah which Money Is from the Car and Truck License plates collected by the State and distributed among the Cities' and County on a basis or -45 pop- illation, 45 Road Mileage and 10 Area, which Is known- as Class -II Roads. "Utah Code specirlcally states Uiat this money shall be spent on roads and streets only under supervision or the County Commissioners after plans have been submitted to the State Road Commission and approved by them, (1953 Utah Code 27-6-28) "The Monies received for the County Road fund Is $9432.78 from the Forest Fund; Mineral Lease $3818.25, and Equipment tentals to date $349.14, which monies must also be spent on Roads only, "Garfield County has 413 Miles of Class B and County Roads, besides . evr,lJ,noAliJtiLMMttaj J hat uel' 'attention at some , --i times or the year to be traveled. "There Is only a- 1 mill levy on property ror Road Funds, this brings In $2837.75." According to Commissioner Jesse Cherrlngton, there Is no "lavish" use or road funds, anu the only saving possible would be to eliminate the 1 mill tax lvy. |
