Show Wheat Quotas To Be Voted Friday July 23 On July 23 at the Garfield x County ASC oftlce at Pangultch. wheat growers of Garfield Coun ty will vote for or against marketing quotas for the 1955 crop. Tthe refrenduni. according to Melvln Aley. of the (larfleld Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Count) Committee, will determine whether or not the quota program now in effect will continue for next year's crop. Two thirds of those who vote must approve quotas before they can he put Into operation. The current program, which was voted on a )ear ago, was approved by 87 iTcent of the voters 390,221 to 57,536. Chairman Melvln Alvey urges every eligible wheat grower In Oarfleld County to vote. A pro. ducer Is eligible to vote If he will have more than fifteen acres of wheat on his farm for harvest In 195g. In other words, ho can vote If he would be directly affected by quotas, which apply only to farms with more than rflfteen acres of wheat. If quotas are approved, there will be marketing penalties on any "excess'' wheat produced outside the acreage allotment and the full level of price support authorized for 1955 will be available for those who comply with their allotments. If quotas are not approfed, there will be no quotas or marketing penalties, and price support for those who stay within their allotments will be 50 percent of parity. Farm allotment notices, as well as an explanatory leaflet giving the essential facts of the 1955 program, were sent out on July 15 to Oarfleld County wheat growers of record.
