Show SOIL CONSERVATION Jaiiirs Harrow t, a t'oiiwrviUlon Fanner ami Rancher Auer following a good range management plan for over 20 years, Jumes Burrows, rancher and farmer at Hatch, believes he has doubled the' carrying capacity of his rangeland. He also reports that the construction of a large fa nil pond and a reorganization of the irrigation layout on his tana has paid oft In Increased crop yields and a saving in Irrigation water that Is now used on additional land. The ranch is adjacent and southeast of Hatch. Part of his farmland is on this land. Approximately 2,500 acres of privately owned and state leased land Is used in conjunction with a public domain allotment. It Is inter spersed and adjacent to his land. His ranch is managed as a beef cattle operation. The ranch near Hatch is used from May 15 to Nov. 1 of each year. Some of the cattle are run on the Dixie forest (luring the summer. A few years ago he acquired grazing privileges down on the Wahweep, winter range. This, arrangement now completes a long time program . .of acquiring grazing land and privileges that provide grazing throughout the year, liurrows states, "Livestock men have had to constantly adjust their operations and land holdings the last 20 years if they wanted to stay In the business' He feels the livestock men should be more concerned about Improving their own .private land, also their public domain allotments.
