Show John H. Clark Dies Mr. John Houston Clark, 74, civil engineer, died In the Pangultch L.D.S. Hospital at 4:45 p.m. Sunday, May 1, of complications following a heart attack. He was born May 17, 1880 In Pangultch", son of Riley Garner Clark and Margaret Houston Clark. He attended the Utah School for the Deaf and received his B.S. degree from Gallaudet College, Washington, D. C. In 1902 and his M.S. at a later date. He was active In the development of roads, hydro-electric plants and water systems In the southern part of Utah and other western states. From 1904 to 1U he worked for the VJS. Forest Service doing surveys In Hells Canyon of the Snake River as well as In New Mexico, Idaho, Oregon, Washington, Montana and Utah. From 1907 to 1911 he was supervisor of Kal-bab National Forest and the National Game Preserve. From 1914-1925 he waa with the State Road Commission planning main highway system, construction of first automobile road out of Kanab, and built Black Canyon Road In Garfield County. From 1924-28 he was In private practice, surveyed the road from Pangultch to Circle-villa Canyon and built Pine Creek Reservoir Dam and others. In 1928 he ' promoted oil exploration, Bull Ruah Dome, and surveyed road from, George- town to Oil Well on Bull Rush Mountain. 'From 1932-1938 he planned and supervised Panguttch Water distribution system, Eacalante, Kanab, Olendale and Or-deTYllle, Utah, and Fredonta, Arizona water systems. He planned and built the Junction and Tropic concrete water tanks. In 1942-43 he worked on the Beaver penstock and power plant; In 1943-41 on' Colorado power and light distribution lines. Crested Butte power power plant and penstock; In 1944-46 Raton, New Mexico storage and flow line tor water 'works. From 1946 to the present time he haa worked mainly In 'Garfield County cn bridges, roads, etc. He waa a member of Utah Society of Professional Engineers, American Society "of Civil Engineers. He la survived by his widow, Blanche Langford Clark, two sons, John H. Clark, Jr., Morton, Wash.; Thomas Cecil Clark, Provo; one daughter, Mrs-' Virginia C. Hunt, Pullman, Wash.; one foster daughter, Mrs. Rose-mond Henrie, Pangultch; five, grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Fern Strembel, Phoenix, Ariz.; three brothers, Dr. Elden D Clark, Joseph C Clark, and Dr. Stanley M, Clark, all of Provo. Funeral services will be' held In the Pangultch South Ward Chapel Thursday, May. 6, art ,2:00 p.mt . - - . . |
