One of the best of these was "Under Dixie Sun", graciously sent to me by the editors of the Garfield County News, One of the finest local history books that I have seen, "Under Dixie Sun" Is a huge volume, well written, generously Illustrated, and excellently printed. While I have never lived In Washington County, many of th names of the pioneers are familiar to me. I have, known the pioneers and vthetr descendents In Escalante. Pangultch, at.d Cedar City. I should tbtnk there would be a wldi sale of the book. Stories of the pioneer', such as this serve to reveal to us the faith, integrity, and courage, as well as the weaknesses to be found In human nature. They also help us to realize that we ourselves are now taking our (urn aVactoritOn tbe stage they set for us. The pioneers deter mindly undertook the task of subduelng the wilderness, uiins the resources they fjund, trying to make Improvements for themselves jmd their posterity. We wonderfwhether we are dole: U.r can to continue those; Improvements. |
