| Show CURLEW STAKE HOLDS conference the quarterly conference ot of tho the curlew stake of zion convened in the snowhill Snow vill villa ward sleeting meeting house saturday may ath at 1030 A M president J C cutler presiding the choir and congregation sang the hymn the spirit of god like a fire is burning elder william hurd of the stake high council offering the invocation which was followed hy by the choir singing r for or the strength of or hills wo we bless thee the usual opening address was pronounced by pros pres jos J larkin who reminded the people that these are arc perilous times and that saints sainta should live more closely their religion than ever before owing to the bad roads no one was in attendance representing rc the general authorities but it was announced that elder B H roberts was from salt lake and in all probability would arrive in time for the evening meeting consequently local brethren were called to address the conference as follows elders ff B robbins robbing william hurd and william V bunderson of the high council and elder ferdinand of the park valley ward bishopric As had been previously announced part of the afternoon session was consumed by the priesthood of the stake those having in charge the various organizations reporting their activities upon reassembling the general conference was resumed elder lawrence lavrence carter a recently returned missionary ot of the park valley ward was called to give a report of his labors othor speakers were elders edward J robbins lewis it cannon and alfred N robbins of the high council dishop bishop A M seely of rosette ward an evening session was held at which elder B D II 11 roberts was in attendance ile he reque requested a verbal report from the presidencies cies of the mutual improvement association leo cottam and sister marion arbon after which elder roberts addressed the conference in opening lie he ex pressed pres sed regret at his inability to attend the opening session which he characterized as being the most important of all the sessions for he said some thought is expressed at this meeting which usually is the key note of the conference E elder ider rob erts tor for a brief period was reminiscent he told of his first mission he was broke he said and took the first employment offering adequate reminer aaion which happened to be sheep after thus introducing himself elder roberts taking for his topic the manner in which god conveys convey si to his children here on earth that I 1 1 information he desired them to receive held his audience spell bound as he unfolded before them in i n mot most masterful fashion this pleasing and important theme sunday morning session at the sunday morning session the sunday school gave a short program president david hirschl was the first speaker he said the remarks of previous speakers relative to work had much impressed him this he said was very essential especially in the tha church and no less so in a temporal sense the two are so inter elated that it is an utter impossibility to separate them that is the temporal and spiritual activities of men the remaining portion ol of the ses sion was occupied by elder roberts the concert recitation was taken by elder roberts as a topic he said the priesthood 0 of aaron never would be taken front from the earth again but would go 90 on and on oil ministering to the people this being mothers day the speaker gave some thought to that subject paying a beautiful tribute to motherhood in conclusion elder roberts discussed the alie prayer of the sacrament |
