Show County Farm News n By The Tho C County Agent 1 Efforts of Garfield County cattlemen to sell their cattle cooperatively co co- operatively in 1946 with the assistance assistance as as- of the County Agricultural ural Agent resulted in an increased increased in in- creased return to growers of 11 11 according to an estimate made by the County Agent Inthe inthe in inthe the Annual Report of Extension work within the county This' This estimate is based on an estimate average increase In price of 1 cents cc per pound over o what was waB first offered by buyers in the county comity Larr Larry Moss 1 the buyer for the Producers Livestock Marketing Association of Salt Lake who came on request of oC the local marketing association to make an offer for the cattle here expressed expressed expressed sed satisfaction over the marked improvement that had taken place in Garfield County cattle since he was down here about five years ago Observations by cattlemen and others in the county also confirm the improvement improvement improve improve- men ment t that has taken place Through the efforts of Graz Graz- Associations and the progressive progressive pro pro- e cattlemen of the county with the assistance of oC the County Agent and the State Extension Livestock Specialists two bull grading tours were held during 1946 at which 21 24 men attended and 16 bulls were graded A tour of the purebred Hereford Hereford Hereford Here Here- ford breeders of oC southern Utah was also a feature of the 1946 Extension beef cattle Improvement improve Improve- improvement ment program This tour was attended attended at at- tended by three cattlemen who came back enthusiastic about the fine cattle the they had seen Other features of the program were trips to the Ogden Stock Show and the M l 0 O Bull Dull Sale at Richfield Nine men were taken to these events Emphasis at present is being placed on the grading of range bulls before belore they are sold Practically Practically Practically all of the Associations Associations Associations Assoc Assoc- In the count county havo have got behind this move by requiring that all replacement bulls grade gradeD B D or better before they willbe willbe will willbe be allowed on the public range The Forest Service Is backing this policy |
