Show Karl Englestead n es ea Honored at Memorial Services Held Here Memorial services were held in the Panguitch South Ward Vard chapel Wednesday afternoon of last week for Cor Staff Slate Sergeant H H. Karl Englestead who was killed in action on tho the day of May in armi New Ne' Guinea The opening and closing songs were rendered by the choir Other Oth Oth- er musical numbers Included a duet by Myrtle Lynn and Mary Sargent a duet by Bell Den Cooper and Alton Talbot and a solo by Mrs Ellis Crosby Speakers who paid tribute to tho the one who had given gi his life In the defense of his country countr were Rudolph Church Kay Ipson Ip- Ip Ipson Ipson son and Alvin Mrs P. W Earl Pendleton The military portion of the services were under direction of tho the American Legon Legan with Horner Homer Horn Horn- er Englestead in charge S Englestead was born In Panguitch September 20 1917 and graduated from the Garfield high school with the tho class of 1936 He attended the Dixie college college college col col- lege at St. St George for one year and was a member of the ball ban team He also attended the Arizona Arizona Ari Art zona Teachers college at nt Flagstaff Flag Flag- staff Arizona and was a mem- mem of the ball team there He lie enlisted enlisted enlist enlist- ed In the national guard while school In Arizona Four years ago he was called Into the service and spent a few weeks In Louisiana In training He returned home for a time I Imd wend nd md on September 15 1940 he was re-Inducted re and sent to Fort Sill Oklahoma for Cor a year of or training During the time he was there a change was made In service ice requirements and he ho was to serve for Cor 18 IS months Part of this time he spent at Camp Barkley Bark Bark- lc Icy ley Texas He had but one ten- ten day furlough during his time lIme Inthe in inthe inthe the service Shortly after war was declared ed in January 1942 he was sent to New Orleans and from there to Panama In J January nuary 1943 he was shipped to Australia Australia Australia Aus Aus- and from there wont to New Guinea He lie spent some time in New Britain but returned to New Guinea where ne lie spent seven months Isolated In the jungles He lIe is survived sur by his father Cather and mother Mr 1111 an and anil l Mrs 1 M.
