Show I An Attack and A Rebuttal. , Elder Geo. F. 0 rover, who is laboring as a missionary in Hanloy, Staffordshire, England, replies to an attack on Mor-tnonism Mor-tnonism published in tho Staffordshire Staf-fordshire Sontinel and wo take pleasure in publishing tho attack at-tack and tho rebuttal as follows: MORMONISM: ' A WANNING. 5 (To tho Editor of tho Staffordshire Sentinel.) Sm 1 noticed in the "Sontinel" "Sont-inel" recently an advertisement of an entertainment headed tho "Latter Day Saints." May I vonturo to bog you to point the onclosed letter, written by the ' wifo of the Reekor of Liverpool about this sect. Few of us here , know the evils of Morinonism, , and the awful danger young women run by listening to or coming under the influence of I these so called "Latter Day Saints." I would earnestly J warn all young women against them. In plain words, Poly- I gamy is quite contrary to Christian Chris-tian marrino-" d lowers its victims to tho lov:l of 1 i" heathen heath-en wives of one man. In (3 oil's name I urgo all right-thinking i people to try and stop this evil at work in our town. Yours &o. EMILY "WATNKS. Doly Trinity Yicaiage, Hanloy. Han-loy. P. S. I am surprised that a Tomporance Hall Committee allows such people the use of their Hall. E. W. MOKMONISM : I A REFUTATION. (To the Editor of" the Staffordshire Sentinel. Sin As an Elder and repres- ontative of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, laboring i n t h o Potteries, T H; feel it my duty, with your kind j j permission to a u s w e r the charges made against us by our christian friend, Emily Waters, Holy Trinity Vicarage, Hanloy, in your last issue of February 0th, under the head of "Mor-monism: "Mor-monism: A Warning." To thoso who are familiar j with tue real object of Mormon H' Missionaries in Great Britain, B; our good lady's appeal would t appear so great an absurdity as to need no answer; but to thoso who are laboring under the fl same delusion as the lady of Holy Trinity Vicarage, I beg to submit these few lines. In tho first place, let me here suggest that the "warning" should havo been sounded as H' well to tho men, women and ,! children, as to the girls of the Bi country, for the Clospol is to bo preached "unto overy nation kindred, tongue and people." The God of Heaven has spoken toman of tho day in which wo I live, not in "dark speoches" but jf in actuality, and has commis si stoned his servants to "preach tho gospel to ovory creature." The untruth which has so often been circulated boforo, i that female converts are being shipped to Utah for illegitimate purposes, to tho well informed needs no refutation, and suffice to say polygamy has neither been taught nor practiced in Utah for many years and at tho pre-sont pre-sont time there is almost as great a majority of unmarried women over that of unmarried men in Utah as there is in England. Eng-land. Tho aim of Mormon Missionaries Mission-aries is not to induce people to emigrate "under Mormon auspices," aus-pices," but rather to encourage the building up of strong branches in this country, but when converts think they can better their condition either financially fin-ancially or otherwise by going to America, they are assisted only as one might assist his friond to obtain the desire of his heart. In conclusion, lot me say that the teachings of the Latter-Day Saints aro moral and uplifting in overy respect, and tho good people of tho district nood havo no fear in reading the tracts distributed by tho Elders of the Church, as they contain nothing noth-ing but tho teachings of our Lord and SaviomyTesus Christ.
