Show ' PAID THE PENALTY. Sheepherder Convicted of Double Murder Mur-der Is Hanged. Salem, Or. Isaac M. Harroll was hanged here Friday for tho murder of Walter and Herbert Newell. He made no statement from tho gallows. Tho Newell boys, who were the owners own-ers of several thousand shoep, employed em-ployed Harrell as hordor. Early In June Harrell was dlsohargod by Herbert Her-bert Newell, and as the latter was writing a check In favor of Harrell for services, the herder shot him. Walter Newell wltnessod the shooting, shoot-ing, and running to his brother's assistance as-sistance was himself shot down. Herbert Her-bert was only stunned by the first bullet, bul-let, and after Harrell had killed Walter Wal-ter he, again shot Herbert and fled. Herbert, not yet dead, was able to crawl more than half a mile to his tent, and there wrlto a brief note describing de-scribing the crimes. Herbert lay dying dy-ing In the tent when Harrell again returned' re-turned' and blew off tho top of his head. , |
