Show I Another Useful Invention. Constructed by Jos. K. Corbett of Garlaud, Utah. ' An entirely new and useful dovlco for the purpose of pumping water by horsepower, horse-power, const! uuted on a simple plan without the use of gear wheels, has re- ' cently been invented by Jos. E. Corbett, chief mechanical engineer of The Utah Sugar Co., Garland department, Tho device has been on exhibition and given a thorough test at the sugar factory facto-ry grounds for the past ten days and ye editor had the pleasure of scclug Its workings one evening last week. It is certainly ono of the simplest, yet ono of the most 'effective contrivances it has been our pleasure to examine. The new invention will be found especially espe-cially benellclal to rural districts where electric aud steam power is unavailable and horses are plentiful. The machine is at present in tho hands of n company consisting of some of our leading citizens who arc arranging for the manufacture of a number of these machines to be placed on the market at very reasonable prices As soon as these machines are offered to the public, windmills wind-mills wil. be a thing of the past, especially espe-cially In the rural districts. The apparatus can be attached to any ordinary wind-mill well pump of any depth. " "Necessity Is the Mother of Invention" Inven-tion" and the coming forth pf this new Invention is explained in the following j paragraph: Mr. Corbett owns t.wo farms at Bancroft, Ban-croft, Idaho, onu a dry farm and the other oth-er an irrigated farm, He recently visited visit-ed hU family in that place and was confronted con-fronted with u proposition that exerted his inventive faculties. On thudry farm he feeds stock and recently sunk a well to obtain water for the animals, but pumping water by hand was a slow aud hard proccM. A wlmj-mlll was too ex pensive and the wind uncertain. lie fouud that the attachments, gearings, etc., necessary to operate the pump by horse-power were expensive and unsatisfactory. unsatis-factory. So he put his mental powers at work on a plan that developed into this new and slmplo machine that will revolutionize revol-utionize former honc-povtir appliances for pumps on the farm. The Utah Sugar Co. has, In the past, kept water in the canals during the win ter months for the use of the people, but should other arrangements be made which have been intimated, tho pumping pump-ing of water by hand for stock uyuld become be-come a burdensome task to the farmer. Then, this new IrrVentlou will become a god-send to this entire commuuity. |
