Show AIRPLANE SURVEY OF BRYCE C CANYON ANYON ORDERED BY U S I 1 tho the bryco bryce national park are area much lot of which la is still inaccessible to man I 1 will be mapped this summer by airplane with the federal government bearing the he entire expense it was announced monday by ralf rait R woolley federal hydraulic engineer air woolley who Is in charge of government topographic mapping activities tivi ties in utah also announced that zion national park would be mapped I 1 duri during ng the summer by federal ground parties and that the work on the tha ex program tor for utah would would begin within 60 days the control work for topographic maps of zion and bryco bryce was done lasi year and this summer should seo sea the completion of the task it was pointed out airplane photography will aay lai open the inward recesses recess ea ot of bryce canyon many ot at which have linen unexplored it Is understood that this Is the first time that airplane mapping which Is the latest method devised has been used in utah to any considerable extent the topographic maps ot f these scenic sections according to mr woolley will be ot of invaluable benefit t to the tourist the government and the state on them all points of interest will be marked and all trails roads streams and mountains with their elevations and contours will be plainly shown they will be of 0 especial value also in planning the tha construction of now highways and trails and in generally improving the transportation facilities county topographical maps espel ally of salt lake and utah counties are in great demand and yet much ot of the work has not been completed mr woolley stated in view of the various counties utah county previously agreed to 2000 to cooperate to the extent of completing part of the county not mapped according to the federal engineer however the government feels that unless some other counties are interested the sum mentioned would hardly justify bringing a federal party here duo to the high initial overhead id expense the utah storage commis ton ion has been active in the mapping project because of its great value in determining logical development of water and the situation Is again being brought to the commissions attention air woolley plans to confer with the utah county officials tuesday at provo ad it if they are still desirous of appropriating 2000 for this work it Is understood that the salt lake county c 0 anty commission will be approached on the subject briefly the great value and use of topographic maps Is to decrease the expense emp enlie of developing devo loping certain areas planning improvements and constructing ting public works construction of highways and industrial plants use of the water resources agricultural develda development bulent and drainage and for determining the mineral eral timber and grazing resources sources ic of an area also they are said mid to have a great value in national defense reclamation arvice and educational studies deseret news |
