Show TAXES in As WILL BE INCREASED county assessor lorenzo pett Is authority tor for the statement that taxes this year will re reach ach the high water mark mr pett went on to state that recently the doard board of county commissioners and the assessor met with the state board of 0 equalization and a 1 cursory check ot of the land valuations in box elder county made with the r result that the state board informed the county board that it would be necessary to increase the valuations on the best lands in this county and it was suggested that committees from bac each precinct in the county be called to make a classification of the lands and then the commissioners and assessor could better make a more just valuation this suggestion was accompanied com companies companied compa panted nied by the promise that it if the county officials could not or would not increase the valuations the state board would be under tile the necessity of 0 making a sweeping increase ot of approximately 50 per cent on all the best lands in the county assessor pett pelt reports that classification committees are now dow at work revising the lists and getting together all lands under their respective classes mr pett states further that the lands in and around brigham city including those south to the county line are at the present time assessed asb essed 73 per cent of their full valuation the farm lands north ot of brigham city in the bear river valley are assessed 53 per cent and up the average being 60 per cent some objection was made at the valuation placed on the best valley farm lands recently but according to the statement ot of the county assessor they will have to be increased very materially the assessor declares that the people will doubtless be shocked when they receive their tax notices but this action Is forced by the state board in order to provide the necessary funds tor for the operation ot of the state business which operation cost has advanced tremendously lecause of the prevailing high cost ot of everything |
