Show I 1 I I 1 i HIGH SCHOOL BANDS COMPETE AT state high school musicians will have their innings at the state fair this year as in other years hut but there will be an added incentive in an informal contest tp to he be conducted during the the session from october 3 to lo 10 according to plans plana of the management high school bands banda of utah will be invited to come to the fair and furnish music on given days daya at certain hours their concerts will be ba listened to by a committee of judges who will note their points of excellence once without direct competition with other bands and at the close of the fair will award prizes to all members of the winning organization this week a letter from herbert M schiller of the executive committee of the state fair board la Is going forward to all superintendents ot of high schools in utah inviting them to send the school band barad to the fair it is the present plan of the board according to mr schiller to award silver medals to all musicians in the winning band the contest throughout will be informal and should afford an opportunity for everyone of the better school bands of the state to win the coveted prizes throughout the utah state fair a ot 1931 will otter offer an exceptionally tine fine class of entertainment and amusement mu As usual band concerts by school and professional organizations will be progress most moat of the time then children and grownups grown ups will be thrilled and entertained dally daily with circus acts and gymnastic features among them lohse and sterling on the roman rings and swinging trapeze the six decardis De cardos the jump ing jacks expert tumblers four haas brothers aerial acrobats andersons animal circus with perform ing dogs ponies monkeys and mules ithe ever popular dog races with speedy whippets Whip pets and greyhounds Grey hounds the usual fireworks displays at night and the entertaining midway attractions sideshows etc the crowning feature of the enter tain ment program though will be the engagement ot of the famous captain Dob Dobbs besle le the great radio entertainer in person with hla his company of 0 sixteen afternoons and evenings for or five days beginning monday october 5 captain dobal has millions of tol fol lowers on the radio who hear bear his program every day ills his appearance in person at the state fairhill fair will pill enable thousands of his admirers to see and hear him at close range in other departments ot of the fair notable exhibitions have already I 1 been arranged ernest S holmes manager says that gratifying interest has been shown in the livestock I 1 and other departments particularly since the announcement that the fair had been designated by the american jersey cattle club clun as the me western jersey regional show mr holmes however again urged that prospective exhibitors in this athla department send in their entries at once to expedite allotment ot of space apace m |
