Show FARM A CK C V af A COVER CLOVER AND SOY BE BEANS ANS FOR LAMBS red bed clover and soy bean hay compared oni pared in recent experiments cou con ducted nt at tho the lowa agricultural exper station ames which show that SOY boy bean hay can be produced tit at a 0 low cost it may be used in place of red clover in the ration ratio of fattening lambs the result obtained however var led considerably between tile the various lot fed d on a basis where clover liny hay figured at 10 per ton whole soy S tean bean hoy flay proved in ili one lot to be worth per ton while in a sim liar lot it was worth only 1375 a ton the ibe two lots showed on an average value of 22 2289 2280 80 per ton toll of soy benn bean bay as compared to 10 for tile clover soy bean tiny hay has proved lit in these experiments peri ments to have a somewhat higher leeding value than clover when fed along with shelled corn cottonseed local corn flud and block salt less of the other feeds ws wits required per hundred pounds of gain in three out of tile the four soy boy benn bean liay hay fed lots na as compared to tho the clover lot chod leafy soy benn bean liay flay with a high percentage of matured beans Is known to lo contain moro protein than red clover hoy flay and hence when the former Is i I 1 ted fed less protein supplements need to 0 o be added to tho the fattening iamb ration the results are reported in ili a new bal ballatin letin soy bean liny ilay for fattening lambs fao 0 o which may be efured secured by writing to the bul bulletin lethi section ames iowa the authors of the he bulletin tire are john M evvard C coulbertson OCul bertson W E and K K X glenness more than a fifth of jhb soy bean hay bay fed to the lambs was refused when the hay wits fed whole with one group of lambs the hay was pound ground and mixed with tho grain feed in this case the lambs were forced to eat all of the hay bay but because they were mere forced to eat the portion containing so much fiber the feeding value of the liny filly was wag lowered and the lambs made less profit than did the others in another lot the hay was ground and fed separately but the selling price gains and margins did not warrant tile expense of grinding the experiments showed clearly that grinding did not pay W |
