Show governor dern and party highly elated over ver I 1 last thursday morning this district I 1 of 0 i n t visit from gov cov bad athe the pleasure 1 u pern dern 11 B E crockett Croc kott secretary I 1 estate tante mr of the state ld board 0 J GrIni orliea cs governor ad berns secretary randall jones jonea of association and mr peterson the parka of the agricultural college ot 0 f logan tho the important part of this visit was aa to enable the board to go over dam project and see town the he hatchtown Hatch what could bo be done towards retting rettig I 1 just the dam rebuilt and supply w water ater east cast side of tile tho river and for or tho the make ank that land usable to tile the people that desire to cultivate it and assist in building tip P this country consisting of the members A party part 0 of the past kast Pan gultch land and irrigation company compa ny tile the panguitch Pan gultch corn coni iner merceal cial club and other re presenta tive live citizens met inet these theao tit dignitaries t nit arles at hatch and tile tho pro proposition posit was waa gono gone over front from start to finish and the matter left in their hands to seo see what could be done As we understand it tile the matter had bad been brought before this delaga tion some time ago with a certain I 1 amount to le be paid with time payments on the balance also that it was the desire of the land and irrigation company to have the state take the proposition over belld the dam and sell the land so that it could be utilized title this last proposition we believe would be a great thing as this section of the state has been pretty badly hit the past few years in the way ot of our bank troubles lack of rates gates of cattle and a great many other things that have happened to put a damper on our once bright prospects after a careful survey of the projects on the mammoth and the old hatchtown Hatch town site was madette made ma dethe the party returned to panguitch Pan gultch where a sump luncheon was prepared tor for then them at t alex place sid and the inspection trip down the river which teemed seemed to be enjoyed by all present in a conversation with mr the news man gained the fact that this gentleman was very much in pym sympathy pathy with this section and willing to do most anything or recommend that something bo be done to put us back on a footing with sections that are not as fortunate as we are in the way of reservoir sites and land that can be handled as easily as aa that which lies on the east side of the river therefore we believe that within the near future some arrangement can be arrived aa in which we will see many new farms over there and the soil being tilled in the manner la fit which it is deserving this would mean a larger population tor for this section and a greater wealth for or all 11 of us in a conversation with dr M W bigelow we gain the following data regarding the matter as aa it appears to us and which we hand you for or a careful perusal A few of the possibilities which could only be realized by the state taking the initiative and putting a reservoir sufficiently large to water the entire east bench it if this were done the very best beat land 0 of the valley would be brought into cultivation the choicest lands landa are not yet even eren eni embraced braced in the acres ot of the land known as the spry project the choice lands are those that are at the tIlt foothills hills on the east or near them here the soil Is deep and the frosts are 6 not liot so late la in the spring or so early in tile the tall here Is the district in la our valley that can produce the best sugar beets potatoes hay and ghitla in more than acres of 0 the ury ry best beat land that Is in Pan gultch relley ey awaits the magic touch of me individual who has the ability to see our needs au as well as aa to havo ha vo the ua power per and the money to make the n ome true two hundred thrifty ty farmers added to we the valley would be one 0 ot t the dreams which anle me ol of the old settlers have looked dorward arward to for many years theada the add ed hay and grain crops to the valley ifould id be sufficient to teed feed the cattle and sheep that are constantly being it t to other districts to be fed as our cor supply of 0 winter teed feed la is not adelate for our summer grazing lands any other added possibilities would thus a be ba added which are not under our present sparsely farming condl ons possible thursday evening a meeting of 0 the citizens zena find the c commercial club was a in uy ut library building and was attended tended by the vlA visitors tors and matters of 0 importance Por tanco were gone over rela alo 0 o to the good ct cf this section early fridy morning the gues greats or 01 ali the WIIt soe road thus giving tile tho people of utah aind the tourists an all other wonderful piece of scenery to enjoy governor doin dern MRS satisfied tint that casto la Is one of 0 tile the most wonderful pieces of scenery lie he has yet visited e and he has been all over ran ilan dall jones and mr Gri grinins took many pictures of the canyon and state that they alio will bo be back to to spend several leeral days up tip here heie tiley they also stated that thai they could not understand why nonn enterprising person 1 did I not lot put a 8 saddle pony trip HIT through casto casio can call yon on ani and advertise tile tho place that lit in their ellel opinion a good big business could be made of that proposition and we e believe the same and can see aee no reason reabon why the trip would not be a profitable one at least until it a road ts is built there which will likely not uoti be d done one until other roads that are now under tinder construction construct i and are needed a great deal more are completed and attended to professor peterson Peter sou spent the day at the experimental farm where he found things la in excellent shape and being taken care of in
