| Show THE ORIGIN AND MEANING OF A RELIGION CLASS LESSON how flow many of our parents know just how a religion class is conducted just what the six steps in progress in a lesson are of course we have all heard many times about the origin of the work how bro lund was inspired by god one day while he was waa traveling about as a missionary these thoughts he took to dro bro karl G maeser lla eser then superintendent of th the e church schools and together they worked out a plan which was sanctioned by pres wilford Wil tora forI woodruff and his counselors and later adopted as a part of our great church school system after the classes had been organized and teachers chosen brother maeser explained the steps in a class recitation to a teacher 0 ia o asked for help and this was done by inspiration from god also they are as he outlined them 1 singing 2 prayer in concert 3 memory gem W 4 lesson 5 testimonies and 6 singing and prayer the first step as already stated Is singing the songs are all learned by the children both words and melody and are lead by one child who volunteers the second step is prayer there again a volunteer stands before the class offering ills his prayer to be repeated by the class in concert by saying tile words of the leader the children listen intently and think of the words and meaning which would otherwise be lost the third step that of a memory gem jas bias aclise a close bearing on the lesson of the day who is there who would not like to learn each week such choice gems as let your first goad morning be to your heavenly father and doz ens of others sometimes from the scriptures and sometimes from choice literature now kow the fourth step or lesson here the subject matter the main thought is developed in a previous article you read tie the names of our lessons the aim and object of our work is not so much to teach pupils to know as to lead them to do and to form proper habits in life all the work out side of class should be practicing the gospel and moral truths taught in class the fifth step is that of getting the children to tell of their own experiences along the line of the special truth taught in the lesson the sixth step is a repetition of the first aud and second thus clang closing a most valuable thirty mi recitation next sunday march alst in every ward in the stake religion class conferences feren ces will be held we urgently request every parent to be present and see what the child chaid is doing BOARD MEMBER |
