Show WAR AGAINST GROUND SQUIRRELS that war is declared against ground squirrels and other rodent pests in utah is evidenced by the recent appearance pe arance of utah experiment station circular no 29 the control ot of ro dent pests which is being distributed throughout the state the circular was prepared by mr air charles J sorensen Soren seu instructor in zoology at the U A C the publication contains the latest and best methods tor for killing ground squirrels pocket gophers and field mice four groups of rodent pests which take a very heavy annual toll from the farm crops of utah the circular also gives detailed instructions concerning the preparation mixing and scattering of poisoned baits the united states department ot of agriculture estimates the annual loss from rom injurious rodents throughout the united states as about one tenth ot of this enormous loss ims is due to the activities ot of ground squirrels utah loses not less than 1500 every year from the depredations of this animal an carnesi carnese war therefore thor etore should be waged against these pests march and april are the months during which the campaign may be most successfully waged tor far it is at this time that the ground squirrels come out after hibernating over winter tiey are lean and hungry their natural food is scarce and the animals will eat the poisoned bait readily the present la Is the important time for farmers in infested regions to begin the fight against ground squirrels although altu alta ough these animals may be controlled during any season of the year provided the proper methods are used A request addressed to the utah experiment peri ment station logan utah will bring a tree free copy of this circular which every farmer in infested regions should have |
